Right ive been on here a while now and ive been meaning to post this build for a while but ive always been in the garage working on it!!:)

Still here goes in september 2007 i bought the missus what was to be a quick fix run CHEAP run aroundto get to work in it cost £310 and came as a non runner with a spare 1100 engine.

Unfortunatly i didnt get to look at it before i won it on ebay and well this was what it looked like

Paintwork was a little to be desired but i thought at least this way she could have it how she wanted.

Once home i stripped it down and this is what it was really like!!!

Basically it was rotten and there's a lot more picture like that ! believe me.
The door resembled tea bags with aluminium patches GLUED on to them and painted over!!

So this quick fix was soon looking like a full on project and i had my own one of them to do!!

still living in a house with no garage and not being super confident with a welder at the time i sent it off to mini classics in blythe

this was how they recieved it.

in the mean time i rebuilt the subrames and suspension and got a lot of the bits ready for when i got the shell back.
after about 8 months and some pics i cant find and a long wait for the other half to decide on a paint scheme

we got it back and it looked like this

and it went straight into a lock up i managed to get in sheffield
:)*happy*

In the mean time i sourced some wheels, and i think they were a bargain at £99 from ebay then i got them refurbed
*happy* compomotive *happy*

Some basic bit's were put back on whilst we had it in the lock up but then in october last year we moved into a rented house in Derby which had a garage*happy**happy*

Then the real rebuild started and initially i was just going to throw in a spare 998 engine that i had to get it on the road quickly (yeah right).
I got this far by the begining of Feb. but unfortuatly the engine was knackered (piston rings were shot) and i never got it started, so out it came.

I then made the decision to build the 1100 supercharged engine that i had always planned to do from the begining.
The engine spec will come later but i will be using ben's kit from australia and an sc12 blower.

This was the 1100 coming to pieces

And here it is ready to go back together!!

I ordered the manifolds from ben yesturday so i should have them in a while just giving me enough time to build the engine i hope!

So this is how it stands at the moment:

I've still got to set up the ride height, its a bit low!!

I've still got a few more bits to do to the car itself including swaping out the petrol tank to an spi one (thanks apbellamy :) ), run new fuel lines, fit an interior!! OH and fit the doors!!

hope you like

luke

Wow. Nice.

Dare we ask what it the all-in bodywork/paint cost was?

I'm just curious how it compares to a new heritage shell, as it clearly needed a WHOLE lot of work!

well the sheLl restoration and full respray set the project back just shy of 4k which was maybe a bit steep which is why im doing my car (The other project) myself and learning to weld (slowly).

I think it took about 100hrs work in total so i dont see it as being to much(maybe im mad?) but its what it looks like in the end that counts and for the most part were happy with it

In hind sight maybe a heritage shell would have been better/cheaper but i like the fact that a little bit of the original car is still there even if its not that much:)

So you're the other person in the UK that is ordering the SC12 kit from Ben *happy* I'll be ordering mine next week.

Car looks great!

We'll have to get all 3 SC12 powered mini's together when they're done.

Looks great. Fab colour choice.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

I have two pieces of advice regarding 1100cc engines for you

1- Fit PTFE buttons to the pistons instead of the circlips- the piston speeds in an 1100 are high due to the long stroke, I had a circlip get out and wreck the bore

2- Don't rev it past 6500rpm

Cheers Tom

A friend of Willh is has hopefully recieved some teflon rod from me this last week and hopefully after some exchange of money ill see some teflon buttons come through the post box soon.

with regards reving high its the missus car so other than me saying dont do it!! i have little control over that but i doubt she'll rev it too high.

cheers
