Hey everyone
Just telling everyone about my starlet 4efte conversion. The car is a 1972 leyland clubman thats in pieces at the moment. Just buying shiny bits for it and putting it together slowly.
Heres some pics so far.
The front blue one and the black one are mine

The wheels itll have when its done, thinking bare carbon miglia style arches over them

Now as it sits

Plans are to convert it to coilovers and fit it with buckets, harnesses and a cage. And a shiny black respray to match the wheels. Though some stripes or leaving the bonnet red arent out yet.
The starlet conversion is pretty popular over here so i can get a custom subframe easy enough so thats what ill be using as a base to build off. The aim is to have a road legal 13 second mini that can turn. Looking forward to it very much.
Anyone who wants to say anything id appreciate the feedback.
More updates soon.
Joe

Stoke-on-Trent. Duck.

Joe,

Looks and sounds really promising, I'm just about to re-attach mig arches to my clubman, I'll let you know how it goes (they're not quite so lined up since I cut them in half for the flip front!)

Is the "Starlet conversion" a Toyota Starlet? Supercharged?

Loking forward to watching your progress!

Pottsy

Its a 1.3 toyota starlet lump thats turboed, out of a starlet gt. A 4efte if anyones interested. I think thats what theyre called in the uk. Theyre a jap import and they go nuts in an 900kg starlet, so what it does in a sub-600kg mini is insane.

Hey everyone,
Ive received a few more bits for it through the post, so ill post a few pics up.
A pic of my shiny new hubs

My soon to be shiny 4 Pot Callipers and drive flanges

And ive got a few questions about putting the asssembly together. Do the flanges just slide into the hub? Or are they bolted to the disc? Or if anyone has a picture of a complete assembly they could post up id be very grateful.
Thanks,
Joe

Hi, The discs bolt to the flanges then the drive shaft slots through the hub and then through the flange/disk then you put the washer, castle nut and split pin on the end.

Out of interest where did you get those new looking hubs from?

Very tidy looking and ridiculous amounts cheaper than buying them over here. Not fitted them to my car yet but certainly look the ducks nuts.

Hi everyone,
Did a bit more work today, Got the front subframe off and stripped the old drum brake hubs off that.
Engine bay before we started

Original subframe looks in pretty good condition, just dirty. A karcher fixed that pretty easily.

And the new hubs fitted on the old subframe. Very much liking the look of the new brakes.

I ordered all of the brake parts today, so they should be ready to go in a few days. Think ill put them on the blue one to bed them in and keep them from seizing.
Took a few more pictures of the shell, found a bit of rust in the boot.

Everythings going pretty smoothly atm, but not thought about electrics so its going to get a lot worse i think lol.
Got to love uni holidays to get stuff done.

The two master cylinfers look a bit different to Uk spec. Are they Aus standard??

Im not sure if theyre standard, pretty sure ive seen cars over here with the one plastice cylinder and the clutch is the tin can type.
Think someones just been dodgy and put 2 brake cylinders on. Not a hassle as im planning to put a pedal box in.

Hey everyone
Done a bit more work on the mini, and bought a few more parts.
Got myself a whole starlet for less than the cost of a halfcut, which i was quite pleased about. Got a few pics here. Just got a few small dents lol.

And the most important part, the engine. Looks pretty crowded in there.

Doesnt look so crowded in a mini
Thats another one ive seen thats being built local to me. Its an incredible build, looks factory and no shortcuts have been taken.
Not really done too much else, painted my brakes and reassembling them. Soon its the best bit of ordering everything then putting the puzzle together.
Cheers,
Joe

Yep these are standard Aus master cylinders some are the metal can type and others are these with plastic reservoirs.

Starlet engine conversions are quite good mine with just a turbo upgrade makes 175HP at the wheels and is one of the lower powered ones around.*indifferent*

How did you go getting the alternator inside the front wing?
Ive only seen it before under the drivers wing.
That looks very tidy, congratulations.
