Just read the first part of the Racecar Engineering article on Mini aerodynamics. Quite interesting.

my bonnet isn't raised for cooling (although thats what I tell people), it's raised because it's a cheap bonnet that's fractionally too long, and hits the scuttle if I drop it down!

That's how I always understood it. Prop up the rear of the bonnet to let air in from the high pressure area at the base of the screen.

Yes that seems to be the conclusion of air flow.

The aditional problem with the bonnet, if I read it right is that it causes lift at the front. Is that closed or raised? I seriously doubt it! |

Reverse venturi as its called has been used for years in drag racing and on production cars. AM Vantage takes its air supply for the superchargers from the scuttle for example, I have shaped my bonnet so its slightly raised in the middle but flush at the ends to get this venturi effect for induction as mine is n/a I seriously doubt it! |

Im planning on lifting the rear edge and running a top mount intercooler and ducting the high pressure through the ic.

Has anyone ever looked into the aerodynamic differences between saloon and clubman fronts?

well i guess an era vent is a good compomise, it will allow airflow in, without fluffing up the aerodynamics too much? "Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun"

a couple of door locks and one active bonnet. I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

I would be interested to see the difference, not sure it is obviously worse though. I bet the frontal area is the same the only difference being the bonet has a curve, but it turns through 90deg so quickly, is it that much better. I also read that raised wings above the bonet are not good either so there the clubman is better. So all in all I bet the difference is minimal, maybe even in the clubman's favour. http://www.twin-turbo.co.uk

Ive often wondered about the drag effect of the air getting trapped under the front wings and whether or not its better to make a vent to allow it to escape. I know Carl has vents in Dons A panels.
I seriously doubt it! |

Theres the old thoughts about pickups going faster with no tailgate, but its been proven now that it isnt true as air builds up in the bed, with the tailgate closed, and creates a bubble for flowing air to bounce off and makes it more streamlined. I wonder if the same is so with the Mini front wings without a vent. Paul im sure that my truck is quicker with the tail gate off,i doubt its a weight issue as its only a single skin, when it comes off its noticable, maybe this effect is different per pickup? i run a cover on the daily and when going faster the air pushes down at the rear like a spoiler... my old X1/9 would go 5mph slower if you put the lights up. But this is more obvious as it's at the front.
