Quick Q for a future build.

Anyone fitted oil jets to a 1380? Can it be done? Is there enough room?

Also which jets are best BMW or Zetec?

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Get bent. I've searched but can't find anyone with them on a 1380!

I'll have a natter with the machine shop when I pick the crank up this aft if you want

Am I right in thinking the basic principle is:

make a flat spot next ot the bore
drill and tap mounting holes
drill feeds into the oil gallories

You forgot the bit where you have to dig out the broken drill bit *happy*

Was gonna make a post about this myself. Just ordered the bimmer jets today. (Part no. 11 11 1 739 907 at £38.41 incl VAT incase you needed it).

How do people spot face the block? Can you use a milling machine cutter in a pillar drill? If so what type of cutter is required?

Already read those brett. Just wanted to make sure there was enough material to get them in there with a 1380

Ah, but you only do the last hole with a pistol drill and you have to judge the angle to hit the main gallery. Slightly off centre and the drill bit will snag as it breaks through. If you are not ready for it, the drill bit can break as it did with me.

Luckily I was able to push the broken bit back out from the gallery end :)

Beemer jets definately look neater and slightly easier to fit. The oil supply and fixture are the same so there is one less step to fit them. I (stood there whilst Paul) fitted Zetec jets to my small bore and it was a pain in the hole

id just use a pillar drill as long as its up to the job

you want some of these:

http://www.axminster.co.uk/product.asp?pf_...&sfile=1&jump=0

and depending on the taper (MT2 MT3 etc) some of these jobbies to hold them in:

http://www.axminster.co.uk/product.asp?pf_...sfile=1&jump=44

ive got quite a beefy pilar drill, so can do a fair bit of non precision stuff with it, got a bit of info on this thread if it helps:

Those little drill bits are a bastard. I set the clutch on the drill nearly as low as it could go and took roughly 5 min per hole to prevent the same catastrophy. This was after reading your experiences Paul:)
