right guys well ive had a little search and read through some of the probems some people faced when fitting these , im going to be using a cinquento front mounted rad in the car , and want to put an electric pump on , whats best really ?
i see some places like demon tweeks and europa sell electric water pumps but they are fairly dear , how do people get on with the renult / vauxhall ones ? and how do we reckon is the best way to plumb them in ?

also as a little tag question , what fans have people fitted to the cinquento rads ? im thinking of trying to source a little pair of motorcycle ones ? :)

thanks in advance

I think you will struggle to keep the engine cool in traffic with the small "water movers". They are likethe KAD ones with the main idea being to keep water circulating after shut doen and reduce hp losses. The flow rates are quite low, although there is not data to say what the performance of the mechanical pump is. TurboDave was using one with a mechanical pump fitted too. I think he planned on removing the mechanical pump but it wasn't documented.

And I have a Meziere pump (WP-136S) sitting in my kitchen looking pretty. I'm sure it will work well one day

any pics of that please?:) I've been looking at the Davies Craig one sofar. Is there a flow control device as well, or is it running the same rpm all the time?

I will be running mine with a Davis Craig pump controller to vary voltage (and therefore flow rate) dependant on temp. I think Mattys is on/off.

I'll post pics when I get home later

Im using a thermostat to control the temps, saves expense, additional wiring and added complictation. *wink*

It sure does. I went for the controller as Phil had it going cheap. It also meant I could keep the pipework a bit neater. P.S. if you use a 'stat it has to be a capillary type.

leeds/wakefield.

I used to use a Renault water mover on the rear engine in my twinnie, it worked perfectly, even though it was moving water from one end of the car to the other

I think we need to know the intended use for the car before we say if something is suitable. I'm sure the water "movers" would be no use in traffic

EWPs are like thermo fans - they run independant of engine speed, based only on need (temperature).

So they are MORE suited to traffic than a belt driven pump. The flow of the belt driven pump at idle is four fifths of fuck all, but an electric pump can run at full flow if needed.

When I was looking into this recently, I had a long chat with KAD about their pumps. They have had no problems with them & have been using them for many years.

I can't see why 'traffic' would be more difficult situation than a full race situation.

Obviously you get less airflow in traffic, but surely this is more a radiator/fan issue than it is a waterpump issue.

Too many projects!
