Evening all,

It seams theres quite a few people on with building motors now that are either allready running fuel injection or are going to be.

Now without a big debate could you all please let us no what ecu you are using any why.

Its seams ecu choice is down to whoever you going to get to map the car as to what there familliar with.

Hopfully it will help people thinking about such conversions.

Thanks rick

More importantly, what car and what engine will you be using ? And what budget ?

And what exactly do you need the ecu to do ?

K head turbo.

Budget !! unsure, if somthing is better il buy it, if its dear'er but does the same job il go for the cheaper one.

As for functions, i want it to run the motor as well as poss, dont want any fancy gadgets etc just somthing that does its job well.

Rick, we have discussed this before, do not get too tied up about it, it is just a silver box that opens and closes injectors and tells the coils to fire. Don't get too hung up, for our uses any of the mainstream will happily do what is needed.

running the motor is a given, as they all do that

boost control ? idle control ? launch control ? anti-lag ? traction control ? Quality of connectors used ? housing ? will it be subject to heat or water ingress ?
Batch fire injection or full sequential ? How many coils ? What triggering system ?

Cheaper isnt always better. You want something you'll have good support and backup knowledge for if you are doing it yourself.

I have sent back my emerald ecu, ( I messed with a short cut in my wiring), they repared it promptly, thus for not that much. They're professional and friendly, I always had very good communication and support by them, thinking I'm not their average neighbor...I will go with them again, and that's the generality from guys that have used them.

Adaptronic for me. As Tom says they are all essentially the same, just depends on what extra options you require. I chose mine because of the customer support.

I run an Emerald, this was primarily selected because its connectors etc are all the same for the k-series as were the mpi engines plus it supports the rover alarm and immobiliser so standard key fob retained. Also found there custmer support to besecond to none and Dave is a bloody genius on the rollers!

SC typhoon for me. Chosen for the traction control, and good value amongs other things.

Sorry, need to edit the above, I have the Tornado, not the Typhoon. The Tornado has the traction control.

Im pretty sure the latest emerald also has traction control, launch control and full throttle gear change capability! That said the SC sounds/looks good as well.

I'm in the same boat. had a big clearout and I've done 3 weeks straight on call last month, then I'm one on, one off for the next couple of months. All so I can spend it all with S.C....

Buying the right system is money well spent. Buying the wrong system cheaply, is money thrown away.

You just need to make sure that what you buy, ticks all your boxes. Both in terms of functionality, and ease of use. But equally important is customer support with any problems or queries.

If that doesnt exist, dont buy.

Pretty much any ECU you buy will do what is required to run an engine. The decission you need to make is how complicated you want to make it with all the bells and whistles.

Already answered.

The person tuning it can determine that...assuming they are competent to do so.
And another very important factor if DIY. The actual tuning software. Some are easier to use than others.

It's always good to download the software and have a look through all the menus and options. See how well laid out it is, how easy it is to change stuff etc.

I note on SC's website, there is no download for the software that I could find. Personally I dont like that. Being able to view the software is a good selling point, as potential buyers can familiarise themselves with it to see if they like it.

I'm almost contemplating buying an Adaptronic for my Volvo in the near future. Does seem to be quite easy to use and is quite cheap.

Oh...and another feature.

Datalogging. IMO it is an absolute must.
