Hi everyone

Recently fitted a newly built Morspeed turbo engine. The engine is a 1293 with omega pistons, turbo booster head. im running a T2 turbo on mirage manifolds.

It has started smoking really badly once warm. I thought it was the turbo and have taken it off to check but its brand new and seems fine. I haven't really driven it very far as it hasnt got tax or mot and when i did drive it i have only let it come on boost 3-4 times.

I am thinking the worst like piston rings but i have done a compression check and all cylinders were good. im a bit confused at what it might be

can anyone help?

thanks
adam

get some miles on it,

the rings need some throttle to bed them in.

Get it tuned and set up and go for a drive!

I find something disturbing about the last half of the first sentence, first paragragh, in the first post.

I don't know though. I have never had a new engine smoke before during or after running in, untill I did the piston in <<<<

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

No, I don't think so

I agree with Toms statement though, I have just never had them smoke after the first few seconds.

if its a new engine there will be some oil in the bores anyway, because when you build an engine your supposed to oil everything.. so this will create some smoke... could be a small leak past the valve guides?

does it constantly smoke or on and off?

Adam.

Did you build the head ?

Do you know if good quality stem seals were used on inlet and outlet valves ? The Minispares brown ones with the garter springs are real good, if not a bit expensive.

I'm suspecting you may have excessive guide clearance or a dicky stem seal or two.

Have you inclined your engine forwards ?

Could be excessive oil level around the valve guides with the engine in the tilted forwards position.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

seconded, the first engine i ever built did though, and that was due to far to little tension on the oil controll ring(s)

thereafter every engine may smoke for 30 seconds on first start and never again, well, untill i crack a ringland or whatever, but you get the idea.

No i haven't built the head and the engine is in its normal position not tilted forward.

The worrying thing is it wasnt smoking on the first start up but after the first short drive it started smoking and now whenever i switch it on from cold it only takes about 2 minutes before i can start to see smoke.
