Thought it was about time i started a thread to show everyone what i've been doing.

Basically I first rebuilt my mini in winter 2010/11. Its a 1992 cooper spi and i fitted it with a Morspeed 1293 with t2 turbo on mirage manifolds. I then did London to Brighton in it and drove it across france to switzerland for the IMM. Then whilst on a hillclimb at Harewood it over boosted and wrecked the rings on two of the pistons.

So it sat on my parents drive for the rest of the summer whilst i was moving house and got it back in October ready for its second rebuild.

I decided to build a track car and bought another shell to start from scratch. Now going to be running a 1380 with mg metro cam, 8.7:1 compression, t2 turbo, 4 pin diff, standard box, straight cut drops. Car has all internal fuel, brake and battery lines. Alloy fuel tank, 6 point cage, force racing rear beam with coilovers. Removable steel front, fiberglass bonnet and bootlid

The plan is to get it rolling roaded and set up then paint the outside afterwards to avoid damaging the paintwork. Then use the car for a bit and rebuild my other engine for some serious power*smiley*

Very nice, but after so much work why have you left oversills on there?

JT the fuel line came from jjc racing, its just normal rubber hose with the overbraid because i didnt see the point of paying ridiculous money for the ptfe stuff and it will last long enough for me.

When the sills were done there was only the oversill avaliable. So i thought meh, its not gonna be my daily so it should be a long time before rust sets back in

Cheers mate. I've just encountered a big problem today. So much so that i've taken the engine back out and subframe off. i cant believe i didnt notice this before but the drivers side front corner of the subframe is 3/4 inch lower than the other side. You might notice this in the last picture because with the front on the drivers side wing is sitting lower.

I now have had the subframe off and put it back on with just the tower mounts to see where it wants to sit naturally. The passenger side floor mount lines up ok but the drivers side doesn't reach. Its as if its not long enough, so when you do up all the mounts its pulling the subframe in towards the car and thus making the drivers side front corner point down.

I don't know what to do about this. i'm borrowing a mates spare subframe to see if its my subframe at fault but i have a feeling its the body.

Pete, did you do any welding to the drivers side floorpan/toeboard when you had it and did your subframe sit on the shell ok?

I'm gonna try and get some pictures to show what i mean, any advice welcome

Made some more progress, I have now sorted out my subframe issues and made a slightly longer mount so it now sits square. I will eventually chop out that part of the floor and redo it but for now this will do.

New mount made

Also made a battery bracket at work

Playing with the Megajolt

It doesn't really matter tbh. The way i have them is slightly better for cooling because the grooves will drag air into the calipers and if they're the other way it means brake dust will be got rid of easier. I can see what you mean though.

Nice mini you got coming along. Im with brett on this one, grooved disks are for removing brake dust as oppose to cooling.

one day boost will be mine!

UPDATE

Mini is now in paint and has turned out pretty good considering its the first time my dad and i have sprayed a car, however i did have a pro sprayer on hand to teach me :) Heres a few pics

I have since taken the engine back out because i wanted to change the final drive from the 3.44 to a 3.1 and i thought whilst it was out, i would dry deck it as well. Done all the machining at work, used an end mill to face it off then clamped the head to the side of the bed on the radial arm drill, worked a treat.

I have dropped the engine back in tonight and the plan is to get it MOTed next week and then i will be getting it Rolling roaded, then its first outing will be the London to Brighton run in a couple of weeks. Then maybe i can start thinking about getting it on a track :)

Just a quick update on things. If anyone can remember another thread i posted i managed to cease the main bearings on my 1380 just days before the london to brighton run. So it was a mad panic to fix it before the run. Was going to rebuild the 1380 but there wasn't enough time, so i dropped a standard 1275 in instead.

Done the mini run ok with no problems, just felt extremely slow lol

However since then I have decided to not rebuild the 1380 and instead have sold up all my a series bits because im now doing an engine conversion*smiley*
It may not be everyones cup of tea but its still a turbo!

Ive bought a Toyota 4EFTE engine and gearbox, complete with wiring loom, ecu and ancillaries. Should be quite an interesting project. Just got to decide whether to make my own subframe from scratch or buy one of the allspeed frames and modify the mounts. Not many people have done this conversion in this country so it should be something special when its finished

Thanks, yeah ive been browsing on that forum quite a lot. My mate has a Toyota Starlet Glanza thats now got 270bhp, so it shows there is plenty of power from these engines. He's just starting a little conversion of his own too. He is putting the engine out of his glanza into a 4 wheel drive starlet and he said i can have some of the bits from his Glanza which he doesnt need like the gear linkages, drive shafts, instrument cluster etc. Getting excited now lol

Thanks Rob, the intercooler was a Ford Escort RS turbo one that i made and welded new end tanks onto, sat quite nicely above the starter motor behind the grill
