hi all finally had the car set up with the 3rd engine it only seemed to managed 85@ the wheels at 6k but hasnt peaked yet what sort of power would you expect

doesn't sound right? what was the fueling like, do you have a wideband gauge?

Or could there have been clutch slip/wheel spin?

85 at the wheels on 10 psi doesnt sound too bad. maybe a shade low but ok. what compression ratio and cam are you running?

comp ratio is roughly 8.3-1 and a cheapo minispeed turbo cam@110 deg, would it make mych difference what gear it was tested it may sound stupid

i believe so but maybe someone else can confirm for sure. i believe that power runs should be done in top gear.

sounds like you could run a bit more boost there. 8.3 ish is low for 10 psi, so that will not be optimum for performance.

on my last engine i ran 128 ish at the fly, that was a 8.7 compression ratio, turbo phil head , sw5 etc, sound simular to the power that you made.

yeah may up it to 15 psi in a couple of months but on the last rollers it made 121 at the fly wheel with 10 psi but it was reved to 7230 there then blew up the following week

The problem with measuring BHP at the wheels is there is a lot you don't know; the losses.

What gear you are in is not so important if you work out the maths. But I suspect that it will affect the measuring device, and may scew results. But as said wheel figures are meaningless really. You can't even compare them against another subsequent run at the same RR.

I'd expext an engine running 10psi to make 120bhp, maybe a little more.

I'll take it in for a power run next month and see he said it was in the region of 115 -120 at the flywheel

more importantly how does it feel on the road?

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

haha, the classic 30% losses calculation.

It feels a fair bit quicker than the last engine and that was the same spec that managed 125@ the flywheel at austec rolling road, but this time it was
at a different one closer to me

So most likely it is making similar power to that *smiley*

7.8 to 1 no wonder its only making 85 at the wheels....

get the head off and bill a fuck load off it and find some power!

You'll be fine rick, just counteract it with 2 bar of boost.

yes,

max boost is inversely proportional to compression ratio!

My thinking exactly. lol

Only run a bar of boost last time it was on the road. should be fun this time around.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

well here is one of my engines 2 weeks ago at slarks 1293 same boost @ 10psi it netted 54.6 bhp more! it made on the same rollers 139.6BHP and 154lbs/ft .... heres the link http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=514724

iam afraid your compression may be too low compounded with the cheap cam you said you have in.

As above, either lop a load off the head or increase the boost. 7.8:1 is silly low.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

you could probably run 40 psi with 7.8:1
