Is there an easy way of fitting this that stops you swearing and cutting your hands?

Its only a bit of metal. If it blows it blows!

You want to try it on a 998 block with no bulkhead cut-out.

I Braze the bolts to one side of the clamp. That means they don't move then all you've got to do is put the other side on and do up the nuts :)
Still a bugger tho.

They also leak (often) because the original metro clamp was for a 1 3/4" pipe - sticking the 2" pipe on there will not seal properly. The smaller diameter part on the clamp needs opening out with a grinder so it'll fit around the larger pipe.

No-one ever seems to mention this for some reason?

No Bulkhead cut out, rather you than me mate!

About the clamp, mine is a cast one; one side is bigger than the other. But it still don't seel properly. I done the welding the bolts on trick, that helps. Looks like its just one of those jobs then.

Might try one of those pressed steel ones see if that helps, or mybe just some exhast paste.

Its only a bit of metal. If it blows it blows!

How about using one those jubilee clip style exhaust clamps, like they use on the bike cans?

Perhaps not strong enough........

Been a while since I worked at mine.

I ground mine to accept the larger 2" downpipe, and the bolts were brazed in too.
Mine really wasnt too bad to work round once you got the hang of it.

I didnt have it back then, but a 1/4" drive socket set might be handy for it ( with deep socket )
In general, a 1/4" drive set is a very very handy set to have.

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

Your missing the point. The std clamp is bigger on one side than the other, but you still need to grind it bigger to accept the maniflow downpipe.

Without doing this it wont seal. I always do it with the clamp and downpipe off the car and make it a good fit. even better trial run on the turbo out of the car too so you can see whats going on.

As Iain says - just try it around the pipe (the smaller diameter should be around the downpipe). If it contacts at the edges, it needs modding. If it fits comfortably all the way round the pipe, it's fine.

I jack the car up, put a big block of wood under the downpipe and gently lower the car so it pushes the downpipe onto the elbow.

Make sure the two are flush with each other and not on the piss.
