woo hoo tubbed arches..............well happy!
other side to do & then i'm gonna try to drill the spotwelds & use the origianl rust-free steel front & flipfront it, as i have bracebars & hinges already,

more done on my car, time is a bit of an issue but gettin there!!! still pushing & feeling enthusiastic, finished tubbing my arches, just have to do some filler work as its warped the 1/4 panals a little as others have said, not to badly though, my welding is'nt the best although not the worst (out of practice really) & i'm getting greaf from a neighbor about the noise but i really dont give a left testicle about the noise, i keep it to daytime so suck my small one!!!

i've put two new genuine rover outer sills on it, inners were ok as were the subby mounts so alls good there, i used a zinc rich primer on the inner sills, inside the box section & stonechip over the top before welding the outers on, i know some of it will have burnt off through welding but some protection is better than none, i'll inject anti rust wax asap too! it should stop the brown stuff for a good while!!!!

i've welded as brace bar that joins the wheel arches in the boot so should stiffen it up a bit, pics to come.....

just a few more brackets to cut off then the shell is solid & ready to prep for paint, that take me fricken ages as i've not the most patiant doing paint prep!

i bought some GAZ rear coilovers too as i plan to chop my rear subby & fit caster camber brackets, brained hoses & superfins, i know some say thgis is silly on a road car but i'm gonna try it, i have spare subby to convert back if its pants!

heres a few pics, comments welcome

progress has slowed due to me cutting my hand! had to have 8 stiches "pants"

so just flatting the body to blow it over, i have bought some 'satin' finish red paint, not sure how it'll look but bugger it! its differant aint it?

got some pics to pop up of the car at the moment, i'm going to paint the hard to reach parts of the car today, door shuts, arch lips, body seams, roof gutter etc etc

then i'll bolt my doors on & flat it again, doors need a little prep anyhow! & the interiour & boot area need a quick once over with a scotchbrite pad,

now this is no concours paint job!!!! the car has agood few parking dents etc & its my daily driver so its a practical/agricultural hardy finish, well thats what i'm hoping for! pics to come

i have'nt painted a car for 5 years so getting a bit nervy! the car is now rust free & sealed up so off we go.........pics to follow

well some progress made in the bodywork department! managed to cut weld & repair the mini where needed, tub the arches & cut of any metal that is'nt structual or needed for a purpose!

a basic body prep & paint has followed in SATIN RED 2pack & the results! well i'm not that happy, i feel it looks SHITE, it looks toooo shiney, like a crap gloss paintjob, i should have bought matt finish paint i.e trusted my instinct! but.... i cant go back now so it'll have to do, i'll make it look ok-ish i'm happy with my shell in the respect that its

rust free
stiffer
lighter
brace bar in the boot, tacked in!!!
B posts tied into the sills, not great welding take the piss if you want *tongue*
is waterproof
one colour inside, outside & under the arches & sills
my wiring harness & fusebox etc is in the cabin rather than the engine bay woo hoo!!!
some pics below!
my wheels i'll tart up & may put some sort of stripe on the shell, we'll see..........

next to do in this order
doors painted & fitted
polycarb windows fitted
fuel & battery lines fitted inside the shell, may do the brake pipe inside the shell but i'm having trouble locating brake pipe to make one
fit my seats, harness's & dashboard

then the turbo engine & megajolt.......then the real greaf will begin i'm sure lol

another pic of it painted inside too

& one of my sills before paint

any ideas from you chaps is appreciated, i've drilled holes in my doorsteps & tops of my A posts for injecting waxoyl too & cut the front panel to make room for m,ounting a front rad!

decided not to flipfront it yet but when i take out the 998 in it i'll weld in a bulkhead turbo box (although not needed as i'm usung mirage kit) & cut the inner wings out & paint the engine bay the same colour as my wheels (only cause its the only 2pack i have left) to make it tidy & rust free

if theres any other mods to the engine bay etc i can/should do bfore putting the turbo motoer in let me know chaps, cheers for previous comments guys, its super appreciated! i gotta be running a turbo mini soon!

lol haha i got busy earlier drilling holes in my doors too!

holes in your doors i hear you all ask!
yes thats right all, i've gone bannanas & took the holesaw to them, i'm trying to think of other places on the car i can drill holes in but i've only come up with the subframes as i've cut off all the other metal

A door pic with the holes in! i know they are'nt perfectly spaced but they are about right! & light, so o have steel frames with holes in the bottom & sides & bonded on grp skins with polycarb windows & i estimate they are half the weight of a standard door with handles & lock + rubbers, painting them 2moro woo hoo

also, once the doors are painted & bolted on i'll see how the satin red paint finish looks, if i'm not 100% happy i have some scotchbright pads & 1ltr of straight out of the can laquer to put a gloss on!!! alls good either way anyhow

well a little more done on the mini phhheeewwwweee!!!!

i've scrapped my bootfloor for the time being as i cant figure how the line it all up so i'll go with the thoughts of benross & other and its staying put!
as for the rear subby i've chopped it up into a beam that hold radius arms & coilovers with unknown springs/rate

i was a bit naughty, i've chopped the bits on the radius arms off that the knuckle joints from the cones go into, pics to come!!!
i've sanded my radius arms down with the sandy disk on my grinder too to paint them & make them spiffffyyy,

painted my camber brackets, have'nt a clue how to get some initial settings for my rear suspension so going to have a look at that z-cars minibuilder dvd to get my basics & a read of some magazines, oh i ned a handbrake cable, mine was actually frayed!!!!

painted the rear arches, bootflorr underneath & sanded & repainted my sills proporly, up to the 1st stiffening rib on the floor asi cant be arsed to clean all the oil off the floor until my engine is out,

i've scrapped my alloy tank idea too so thats for sale, i've used a morris minor tank, i just have to sort a filler neck & cap for it, i have sorted the feed return & breather so once i ve fixed in the car i'll put my metty turbo fuel pump in,

i dont know what fuel filter to use chaps??????? somthing cheap that works is my need!!! what do you ppl use

& i've took my front to rear brake pipe off, its going in the car
yeeeeeeee--haaaaaaa! i'm quite chuffed with that, dont ask!!

anyhoo more updates to come more often over the coming few weeks

i've got the 998 turbo & box all built up now so should get some pics of it in its shiney glory, proboly go bang withing a mile knowing my luck at the moment but i have some backup plans in the form of a boggo standard metro 1.3 & a box of metro turbo parts including intake/exhaust fanimold, t3 turbo (unknown cond) turbo carb & other turbo associated bits so if 998 dont go to plan i'll have a turbo going in

i agree with kieth calver, get the shell & other bits done before the engine&box & you know it'll make life easier

oh arrrh before i forget, i'm drilling my s-disks my self with a hole template (this is a gooodyyy update to come, well i'm chuffed with it) & i've got myself braided hoses all round, i'm getting there, i hope tis ends up a quick-ish mini *surprised*D

oh yeah the pics are before i painted it underneath, & prepped, i took the bits of metal thst are'nt needed off too, just the brsake pipe clips on the floor to come off!!!

found my cable so uploaded some pics (yep more)
my modded radius arms & painted underside of the boot floor, arches & sills,

is there a way i can strengthen the shock mounts for the use of beam axle & coilvers????

i've drilled extra mounting points for my chopped subby four around the exhust tunnel & either end of where the radius arms mount, i've done this so its basicly sold mounted, i've used solid mounts in the trunions, not metal or ally but hard black nylon, i've welded two tabs that bolt through the rear floor with big weight spreading washers, they are large diameter, any advices are appreciuated muchly

hugs n kiss's lol *surprised*D
