im in roll cage hell at the moment, these weld in cages are such a bugger to get fitting nicely!

wish id bought one with the ends already profiled, it would have be in a long time before now!

bit of an update, no pictures though!

i have welded in some traingles to the scuttle/ inner wing for my bonnet pins.

the front end and bonnet is now all fitted properly, with the bonnet raised nicely.

ive fitted some of the smaller bulkhead braces to my cage.

engines all back out again so i can mill a chunk off the starter housing.

its so good being able to work on your car when you want!

Could you get me some pictures as you go? Also have you enslaved Jason to do your welding for you?

Hi andy i got bored of waiting to see progress on TMF so came here to have a peek instead :p and i must say its lookign very nice indeed.
how are you welding the cage has the structure been dropped so you can weld completly around the circumfrence of the tubing, iv heard of cages that are only welded in place which are visable to the eye and when pannels are removed evidence that they werent welded correctly in the 1st place

I really the brace bars, would I be right in thinking that they are a one off?

I received the exact similar looking ones from Fastcarl four years ago :)

You might want to strengthen the area where the brace bard meets the fram. Weld a washer to the frame, and gusset the front. Hot tip :)

no problem rob, i will get some pictures once i find some batteries for may camera. you will be really pleased you got the cage once its in, just not fitting it. yeah jasons gonna have a go at it, i dont trust my welding! lol.

mini93 im not really the sort of person that would only weld the visable bits of a cage, its all in control and planned for dont worry.

like i say i got the idea for the brace bars from a miglia, although i would like some in titanium cost a bit more mind!

so the front end is now fitted properly, bonnet has both sets of pins fitted and i have riveted a bumper lip onto the front panel.

inside i am about 45% into the cage i have done the door bars now which look really good but i still have:

2 bulkhead support bars
2 roof bars
rear backstays
4 backstay supports
and a harness bar and couple of other bits i want to add!

just a bit of an update, the projects still going.

the cage is still taped in, i have sorted my seat frame out today, i just need to do some bits on it at work tommorrow and i can weld it in.

once the seat is in i can do the harness tube and the cage is ready to go.

im gathering all the bits i need to start my engine conversion.

ive bought a custom alloy rad, and a cossie intercooler and a forge dump valve with filter, and i won a gt17 turbo on ebay last night.

and i have some nice carbon bits from curley on there way in the next couple of weeks...

i also bought some UJs so i can sort the steering wheel once i get one of my bits of carbon!

Looking awsome andy, its going to be wiked!

How did you attatch the front end down? Have you used dzus fasteners? Also how is it attatching at the front valance ie whats stopping it from tipping foward?

I need some ideas for mine as i dont want hinges and am not really sure how to go about it.

Cant wait to see it finished mate!

Rich

sorry rich i lost track of this!

the front is held on with 6 bolts (ive used countersunk bolts in panel washers), 2 on each side bolted through tabs on the a panels 2 at the top hidden by the bonnet.

at teh front ive got bonnet pins with spilt pins thru them.

i will get some better pictures when i fit the front back on but i have taken it off for a while.

i have been plodding along with this but there is a lot of trial fitting of bits at the mo.

jason aka milamber is coming round to start welding in the cage at the weekend, then i can cut the roof of and make a start on that.

and my evo2 dash is due in from curley any time soon so i can paly about with fitting that. oh and i just bought a SC engine steady !

so to sum up, nothing done, waiting for bits to arrive!
