SOunded great til the pothole, really smooth, must have a flat torque curve.

What actually happend then?

Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

My guess is the pothole caused the crash switch thingy to turn the fuel pump off.

Sounded good mind.

Yep, inertia switch. Tis a funny thing as its the first time that has happened since i bought the car. I dont think it was a pot hole, but rather, a repair patch in the middle of the road.

Nice and easy fix, but it was a bit of a panic lol.

there is 70lbft from 3000rpm up to 81lbft at 6400 then back down to 70lbft at 7800rpm. There is a big dip in torque at 4000rpm which is starting to look like a common thing with these normaly aspirated engines. I suspect its the tuned lengths of the manifold, Infact I think its more to do with the pairing of the exhaust runners. Perhaps.

The dip in the torque curve is a 16v trait - nothing else - certainly not cylinder pairing, whatever 16v engine it is. The 108bhp low budget 1293 8v twink demo engine had a flat torque curve from 2000-7500 - no dips from its "RS" spec cams or identical exhaust to yours. I'm confident you'll find the right next step.......eventually!

it would probably be like this one!

if its a prob colin ,just advance the cams or spread the lobe seperation angle a bit .

Medusa + injection = too much torque for the dyno ..https://youtu.be/qg5o0_tJxYM

Sorry, newbie question : what starter motor is that ?

Saves a lot of space in the front end !

Interesting you say that John as I just looked at the 1293 8v printout and there is a characteristic dip at 3600rpm????

Oh and yes, it wont be the pairing, the pairing is right, but it could well be the tuned lengths

Sprock-its only a dip until you look at the torque scaling on the graph- very little change over that rpm period!

out of interest can you feel any changes in the torque it when you are driving?

when I was running the bunch of bananas manifold on goldie (4:1 equel length circa half a metre long primaries)the torque curve showed some interesting tuned length resonances every 1000rpm or so - driving it you couldn't feel any changes in rate of accel - other than f***ing fast everwhere in the rev range.lol

it would probably be like this one!

Nope cant feel it other than when it comes on cam, then its off like a rocket. Mine is a dip of 5lbft so not much, drops off and recovers withing 500rpm

I have some serious handling issues in first gear lol

Pics at the Wirral to llandudno run on Sunday the 11th January, Thanks to Jackman for the pic s:)

The car and the engine never missed a beat. The only major event of the day was some BAC reversed into the front of the mini, while we were waiting at the counter of the McD drive through. only nudged it, bent the lamp stay and moved the lamp, putting a small dent in the bonnet! It could have been worse with the rad where it is and as close as it is to the alternator*oh well* It was a good day out all in all

Still a list of stuff to do, but the important ones getting done first for the dyno shoot out. Those are swap out the cams for a full compliment of RS ones *happy* and set the cam timing up hopefully with different numbers *happy*

It does look the absolute business however!

The ECU kept smoking FET injector drivers within 10 - 15 seconds of starting the engine.

I havent been able to find out why, but i suspect it had something to do with the stepper driver chip, thats the big through hole chip in the middle left of the pic. The stepper motor failed just shortly after I had the engine running, which damaged the chip. From that point on I had endles problems with the injector drivers.
