sorry I was wrong, class b is upto 1380 not 1340 so with a multiplier of 1.4 that would mean I need 985cc or under.

Jimster, I may be reading the regs again and I can find no mention of a multipler just "c) Forced induction systems are allowed (but may change the permitted class)"

I read that as go and build a 1380 turbo!!!!

Anybody know a source for the 970 cranks?

That said with the revs a beastie like this would probably pull I'd be tempted at a billet crank and aftermarket rods.

Just talked to Rich at Minispares. They don't do them anymore. That means you'll have to get a billet one from the usueal suspects if you're not lucky enough to find a suiteable one elsewhere.

thinking now of 1275 block, billet crank, and long rods. That should rev a bit!

don,t know about bmw head , but be aware all these changes of bore size and the need to get the 16 valves in without too much buggering about ; worked this out looking at keeping turbo'd KAD engine under 1400cc with 1.4 add [ difficult with BV head , which is wot i've got]

I have read, and read, and read those regs and there is no mention of a forced induction multiplier as I stated in my previous thread.

as i said long ago Mighty minis dont have proper regulations so it would not suprise me to find out there is no multiplyer for turboing. they make up the rules as they go along to make things fair, so if you go balls out they will change the regs and you could end up in a class on your own.

the mighty's and supers have regs they have to stick to.
no idea about the extreme's although i've heard it described as cheque book racing.

mighty minis have regs but they have so many holes in them you would not beleive. they are not proper regs as Roger found out the costs and wrote them himself, thus the joke that is mighty minis.

read the regs then read the mini7 or miglia regs and you will understand.

I've read both, found them pretty clear to be honest, I've spoken to Roger the multiplyer for forced induction is as in the blue book, (ie 1.4x)

Jim you would be in extreme mighty minis so would not have a problem. its the standard mighty minis and super mighty minis that have problems with poor regs. the extreme mighty's dont have too many rules so are ok.

as an example the rules on heads allow you to scim them. only problem is if you take it to the minimum head thickness you dont get the minimum chamber volume so are you breaking the rules to meet a different rule?

its still good racing and cheaper than most.

Blue book states:

E12.4.1 If forced induction is used, the coefficient will be 10.7:1 unless otherwise stated in specific technical regulations or SRs.

The is nothing in Section J to make it 1.4 (like there is in section L for hillclimbing)

The is also no multiplire in the SRs (as pointed out above). So I'm afraid its 1.7, which means 811cc turbo.

Ok .... how confused am I now!!!!

I'm going to try and speak to Roger myself but if Jimster got told 1.4x then I assume I will too.

Maybe it highlights a hole in the regs, if so it's only fair to all to point this out to Roger so he can revise them.

I have thought about using a 1275cc block with a 970 crank.Theres not enough metal in the deck to leave a reasonable thickness, although if the pistons were left down the bore a bit to lower the compression ratio this would save having to grind the "beak" of the standard combustion chamber shape as with most turbo heads.I enquired with Farndons about a billet 970 crank and some special longer rods. The price was around £2000,on first thoughts it seems like a lot of money, but the more you think about it the more it seems like a good idea. The ultimate sub 1 litre turbo screamer.
