Cheers lads, and please pass my thanks onto your contact TD, im pretty sure weve homed in on the problem now

TD/Carl, do you mean the actual ID of the CWs 'ringear' is not big enough to except the OD of the diffs flange?

Its a JKD CW, not sure if they share the same problem as MSC or not, knowing my luck recently it probably will do...

Tomorrow Ill determine if its fouling and not seating properly (and where exactly), or whether it is fully home and the CWs flange is simply too thick

Thanks again

Joe

i would agree with fastcarl, i had a JK crown wheel which has a small lip on the inside. when fitting the diff it would not sit flush with the crown wheel. i had the crown wheel machine to remove the lip which fitted flush. The bolts should be flush with the diff and not sticking out.

I would agree with Carl, my crown wheel was a JK, it had a lip inside which did not allow the diff to sit flush. i had the machine so it could sit flat on the crown wheel. The heads of the bolts should sit flush aswell.

bingo, yes phil its sitting on that lip! so feels good in your hands, like its hitting home, but when looking through the bolt hole its way off.

will drop it down to my friend at BA tomorrow lunchtime and have him sort it out.

Cheers as usual guys

Righto, had the step machined back to allow the quaife to fully seat in the CW

Some people seemed to think the quaife itself would be easier to machine, but a file test suggested its significantly harder than the CW, also the machinist said it would more than likely void the lifetime warantee.

Anyway, fits like a dream now, dead central in the box, and yes it would apear that all the grinding to the box i did was unnecessary after all.

In this shot you can see the difference when its seated fully..

in comparison to before

Torqing up the diff bolts was fun, had to turn down the end of an old 9/16" sockey so it would fit inside the ring gear.

Well thanks guys for all your help, ill let you know how it goes when it finally gets on the road, probably be another few years at this rate.

Cheers again

Lol, i had to do that to. Have a special little socket for this purpose now. Glad you got it sorted.

Righto, first problem was getting the pinion nut undone, but a volvo, some nosey neighbours, and a bit of scaffold bar it was soon sorted...

I tried this technique on the weekend to remove a FD but couldn't jack up the Volvo any where near high enough, couldn't believe the amount of sag in the suspension. Off to think of a new technique.

Because in the UK we don't use U as it can be mistaken for a V.
Must be different for the Isle of Man?
