well, mine was new from 1071s, and after about 10 mins of running, it was hot to the touch, I guess around 50 - 60 degress. is that normal?

I wouldnt have thought so Jim, Ive never felt any heat off an alternator personally, no matter how hard Ive been driving.
They are supposed to be 18,000 rpm maximum, have you got a pulley thats too small?

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

I'm guessing that the pulley is too small, but at the time I was only idleing, so shouldn't have been a problem

if you've got a std crank pulley it would have to be fooking small to worry an alternator...

The one on mine is too big and so only really starts charging properly at 3k+

Hi,
Do you know what output (Amps wise) the alternator is.
I'm wondering if its the lower output one and is struggling with the draw from pumps, injectors and coil pack?
Errm, it has got a fan in / on it?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

There is an alternator recon place where you used to have your unit don't forget who will be able to confirm it one way or the other Paul

yea, I have the std crank pulley, I don't have a fan on the battery at the moment, but the battery was very flat, so it would be taking a good charge.

Hi,
If battery was well down, I would expect that.
I meant fan on the alternator *wink*

Mine gets Warm to touch when it is used, I thought i had wrecked it, But i have put the meter accross the battery and its charging fine. I also tried to fit a small kubota type alternator but it stuck out from the block further than the larger cased swift type alternator on my aplication!

Bat, all seems to be good. Ign light works as it should and it charges well.

Jimster, it does get warm, nothing I would worry about. I ran the engine for 15 mins or so. My engine does run very hot at standstill, so Im guessing as Im driving it will be cooler.

Thanks lads for the advise!!

Paul

I seriously doubt it!
