Steve, had a chat with MED regarding rear main oil leaks and any recommendations they had to solve it. Apparently their MG Midget Challenge engine don’t suffer from this problem because MED fits steel main cap (mid and ends), which are line bored to ‘very tight tolerances’.

Would be interesting to hear other people opinion on whether ‘very tight tolerances’ on main caps could/would solve this problem? Sorry guys, I know this isn’t a Mini issue, but your thoughts on this would be much appreciated!

For what its worth: mine is tightly machined, the crank is pulling in the oil when turning. If I turn the engine of there still will be a couple of drop lost every time. but on idling its leakfree.
I had a crank seal setup installed pervious to the rebuild but that was a waste of effort and money TBO. it always lost quite a lot of oil.

Do you think the leak would cause my screaming clutch?

Mine has starting to compete with the Mini in the leaving puddles of oil on the garage floor stakes.
