Being as the standard actuator normally runs at 7psi through a controlled bleed valve, a bleed valve seems the cheapest and best option to me.

cheers milamber

have just bought this bleed valve:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...:MEWN:IT&ih=017

and am thinking about buying this dump valve

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...bayphotohosting

Seems abit pricey, but it comes with a fitting kit. Has anyone bought one of these before? if so is the fitting kit any good?

cheers

Hi,
I'd always avoid bleed valve wherever possible as what you bleed off could be going in the engine.
I'd go for the 8 psi or you could try winding up the pre-load on the standard one?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

You could try putting a little more preload on the actuator, you may get a little more boost.

Would i do this by winding the actuator bar in towards the acuator or out?

Shorten the actuator rod.

sorry to keep asking questions but do you think i will need to change the spark plugs or carb needle to run at 7-8psi accross rev range?

plugs currently are BPR6ES

many thanks

Again, a rolling road would be the best solution to getting the needle right.

Plugs should be fine.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

Had a little tinker today, have fitted the single box maniflow system, which sounds the nuts. Also shortened the actuator bar which has increased the boost to 6.5psi then after 4000rpm the E.C.U operates the bleed valve still and increases it to 7.5psi.

Happy days!

Just gotta wait for the dump valve bits to arrive from Avonbar now.

Standard plugs will be fine. I run 20psi with them in mine.

Yes. Though i know most other people have had to go colder, and as a rule you generally do on a tuned motor. But mine kept fouling the 7's when pottering round town etc. Changed to the 6's still with 20psi and it's been fine.

think i shall stay with the 6's then, only running 7psi boost.

many thanks

Hi all

Time for an update!

Ok the car is all standard apart from a maniflow performace system, k&n air filter element, original wastegate actuator adjusted to increase boost and a dump valve. I had it set-up by peter baldwin yesterday where he profiled the needle to allow more fuel at the top end and adjusted the ignition timing. It produced 131bhp at 6200rpm! not bad atall. The boost provided interesting reading (i still have the ecu connected), im showing 7psi of boost upto about 5000rpm then it gradually increases to about 10psi at 6200rpm. I assume this is the ecu bleed valve kicking in and rather than it being 4psi increased to 7psi, as i have adjusted the actuator to 7psi it now increases it to 10psi. any ideas?

cheers!

oh yeh, some footage from the rolling road:
