The colours are in fact perfect (same as mine)....

Looking really good, but did you not go for the tensioned timing chain in the end, it looks like you didn't from the photos ???

It will also be interesting to see...

(a) how the needle thrust washers work out, and

(b) how well your coil spring clutch survives.

I noticed that we painted them the same, I like the color scheme! When I saw yours it made me feel good that I picked the right colors.

The timing chain issue was a story of frustration. I have all the bits to tension the chain, minus the cover - but I ran into problems with the front plate thickness. So I went back to the original set-up just to move forward. If the chain is too noisy I will take care of it later. I did change the chain which tightened things up a little bit.

You and me both - I wont lie, I was going back and forth, and after many beers I finally thought "f' it" and assembled the damn thing with and bit of pre-load. My buddy thinks I will be fine and does not think I will have issues with the washers rotating. Time will tell!

I was to find a pre-vetro flywheel and pressure plate - so no worries here. I did not even attempt disassembling the spring clutch after the info you gave me :)

Depends which month you ask me, I have gone from Old English white with a black stripe to British Racing Green with a Yellow stripe to a dark gray with a black stripe.

The only thing I know is, it is going to get a stripe so that it matches my TR6, that is the OCD coming out in me*happy*

Time to remove from the stand.

Mounted in the front subframe. I decided to leave the valve cover gray for Vegard *wink*

Overall I was pretty happy with the night, felt like I am making progress -- then CATASTROPHE! As I was folding the engine hoist up it tipped backward and crashed to the floor. One of the legs kissed the rear fender of my TR6! I guess it is just one more excuse to redo that one after the Mini *frown*

I also tried to put the freeze plugs in tonight, now that the engine stand is not blocking the holes -- they are a hair too small, meaning they fit perfectly into the block without any force. Has anyone ever encountered that? I am going to try a flatten them out a bit, to try to make the diameter slightly larger tomorrow.

The core plugs are domed yeah? well they need smacking with a hammer to open them out and get a tight fit. I used a bit of super glue to hold them in place and then whacked em!!

As above, they should go in with little to no force and when you whack the dome (use a suitable large diameter drift) to partially flatten them, the diameter automatically increases.

I always put a bit of loctite around the circumference before putting them in so as to be sure they are actually sealed once they have been expanded (whacked).

So what you guys are saying, is the dome should face outward. Then when they are in place you tap the top of the dome to get them to stay.

You don't flatten prior to installing?

Assuming it's the earlier type core plug (that's what we call them over here !!!), yes.

The dome shape is so that when you flatten them in situ, the circumference grows. Just make sure your "drift" is large enough in diameter to compress the whole dome.

I'm assuming the early ones because of the rest of your build. Later ones are different.

No denying those core plugs haven't had a good thump!

Bad luck about hitting the triumph though.

Yep, they are the early type that need a good whack...... but I would suggest a somewhat larger diameter drift made from something soft like brass :)
