For the Aussies, a Vauxhal Corsa is a Holden Barina and the 2.016v is tha same found in the Holden Calibra. I have seen a Vaux 2.016v turbo in a clubman in a mini mag a few years ago but was only 200 nan nans or so.

Hi,
I read a post I think it was on here or maybe 16v, where the weights were compared.
From what I remember unless you spent a lot of money on lightweight parts for the Honda it was heavier than the A series setup.
Personally I don't care about weight, me or the car! The unbalanced setup is not what a Mini is all about *wink*
And no I'm not slagging it off. :)
Cheers,
Gavin :)

imagine th main reason is money. on a post a while back build costs were discussed (on teh 16vminiclub) and most honda builds were 10k+ almost all the big money builds were honda, sinking another 5k+ into an already expensive build would put alot of people of :)

I don't think it's a money issue, I'd hedge a guess that there are a few cars here that have cost over £10K to build, I shudder to think how much the clubby is costing me as it is.

I think the reason it hasn't been done is because no one has the motivation to do it, by that I meant that the kind of people capable of doing a project like this have other projects on the go that interest them more.

i dont see why people havent done a big power honda lump, a friend of mine has a 220hp n/a civic which he may be turboing soon that is rapid, and still about 200kg heavyer than a mini, even if the front of the car is heavyer or is imbalanced does it matter that much if its purly for drag? a bit of weight somtimes helps.

Nic, buy one & get 3 more posts for free *smiley* stupid phat fingers must have bumped the special "multi-post" button, i wish i knew which one it was so i can avoid it *smiley*

Ok, Jordan, that`s enough naughty seat for you, you`ve learnt your lesson *smiley*

We havn`t had many Calibra or Barina engine swaps here, we`re seeing more Suzis & heaps more toyota starlet turbo conversions going on at the moment in OZ,,, I`m not sure what the deal is tho because some engineers are scaring people away from engine conversions (cost & safety etc reasons) & yet some others are letting them get away with the flimsy-est of subframes with very poor design that will surely bend & flex under torsional & lateral stresses & will definately start cracking soon, but they don`t seem to care about common sense & physics, they just want the donk in there & approved, so i bet we are going to see some pretty shit jap engine converted minis on the market here with subframes made with very little thought, but they will most probably sell easy anyways because they can simply show the engineers report that they`re safe, (yeah right)

I was thinking that we`d have a flurry of turbo hondas but they just don`t seem to be happening, only a few std N/A hondas & a few turbo toyotas & some old suzis & that`s about it really

& of course you guys seem to be getting quite a few more bike engine jobs happening , where as, it looks like they are slow off the mark to be built here,,, again probably the Dept of Tpt here scaring them off that path, not sure tho,,, i`d have thought that heaps more bike engined conversions would have popped up by now...

weired how the trends differ from country to country,,, dam just look at the states with people just cutting off the floor pan of another car & grafting it under & onto a mini shell (obviously with a lot more than just said, plenty of spaceframing & gussetting going on , but none of that here because of the Aust Dpt of Tpt rules not allowing it without mega bucks being thrown at stress testing etc,,, how`s the rules so relaxed in the states & in England??? what makes it so easy to register a motorised lounge chair etc ???

Where are the turbo vauxhall lounge chairs then??? *smiley*

Hi,
I guess that's the thing Matt, it depends on what you can do in your country. In the States they've been chopping and welding for decades, it's a whole industry over there!
Rules are relaxed over here I think due to the fact as long as it looks vagely like what is says on the registration document as passes an MOT, you're ok.
I used to run a series I Land Rover, the wings and doors are the only things Series I, the rest was a shortened chassis Range Rover with a full cage!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

mines a 6k so far and i haven't touched the engine brakes or interior.

still on standard disks and a 1293 mg metro engine.

soon sorting that out though.

have you seen a 800bhp skyline launch? they can go sideways coming off the line. think of how bad it will be in the mini with the short wheel base. plus you would probably lift the front wheels off the ground lol!

Anyone ever thought of chucking a 1750 O-Series engine out of the land crab in a mini!

Im sure with the same amount of work to an a-series you could produce some big figures?

Just a thought.

I quite fancy the idea of sticking a judd v8 in the back of a clubby estate.

I hate to think about what one of those engines, and the associated transmission would cost.
