the lay shaft is different from a to a+ which means you would need to use a a+ laygear which in turb you would need to run a a+ gear kit.

why cant you use a a+ gear kit carl.

My pre A+ is in a A+ case, I had no issues with layshaft

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

Ditto (done it twice now).
The layshaft and lay gears are certainly different in terms of their needle roller numbers and sizes (so I don't think you can mix an "A" laygear set with an "A+" layshaft) but using "A" as a pair (shaft and gears) I found no difference in the sizes where they fit in the "A+" casing.

Well I've done it twice using a pair of "A" layshaft and laygears in an "A+" box (along with all the other "A" gears obviously).

As far as I can see, it's just a case of making sure it's a pair..... Then they fit fine.

EDIT - in fact one of the "A+" casings I got from a 1275GT from around the changeover time actually had "A" gears (GT set) with "A+" drops (larger diameter shaft to fit the "A+" casing) and "A+" CWP.

Note, that might be an issue for you, the "A+" casing has to have the larger diameter shaft on the drop gear.

I ran mine for 9 years, only just removed it from the car to upgrade. I gave it no end of grief so there is deffo no problem with A gears in a A+ case

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

Just don't forget the drop gear bearing size is different, the "A+" casing won't take an "A" drop gear (as per my edited earlier post).

Rod.

EDIT and the "A+" reverse idler has to remain, the "A" one has the groove for the selector arm/fork in a different place to the "A+" selector mechanism.

I also used A gearkits in A+ box, but didn't find it to be a fall in job, I needed to mold the box casing to give some clearance to the A shaft to drop in.

i'd heard this from the guy who does my gearboxes, where does it need releiving, i'd rather do it than have him hack it out,

Ah yes, Id forgotten about that, the centre web needs relieving a little above the mainshaft bearing, just enough for the mainshaft assy to drop in.

Paul

I seriously doubt it!
