Definately quote of the month *laughing*

My tool organisation goes much like the oneyed lizards, use tool, put tool down, spend hour searching and cursing the tool.

My box is the same as Paul R's except for my box has a lack of foam, just sockets on rails and spanners neatly stored in order in spanner racks, imperial short, then long imperial then that horrible metric stuff as all our cars are imperial at work.

Its so much easier being organised, having had everything thrown in together it just takes an age to find and gets lost!!!

in work i have a big tool box with everything init nice and neat. screw driver draw, spanner draw, hammer/chisel draw plyer draw etc etc etc lol

at home i have a tool board and hang all my garage tools on it. i then have a little tool box for all the stuff i only use now and again. i only have a very small garage and even a average size tool box takes precious space up. its just a big piece of plywood with hooks and screws in it to hang everything on. works brilliantly imo

you can see a bit of my tool board here

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Yeah working in another garage ATM but when I move back to my tiny little single garage will end up adopting the same method I think.

This is something I've thought about a lot recently as I'm sure I've got more specialist tools than I can find; I've got a clark roller cab and top chest which is fairly well organised but there are still a few drawers with a general pile of tools and of course I can't get the top closed because of the crap piled up on the top tray.

I would happily hang things on the wall but we share a workshop with another couple of guys who tend to be around during the day while we are about in the evening. I trust them implicitly but while the door is open during the day, you've no idea who is coming and going and, having lost a load of stuff in the past, would rather pack it all up in a box and put it in a locked room out of sight.

I remember a guy who had a workshop down the lane from another workshop we had a few years back who apparently had no tool box or any order of where anything was kept. However he always knew where everything was. His reasoning was that if you have a big shiney tool box, the 'they junkie b*****ds' as he so kindly put it would be drawn to it like flies round sh*t. The guys in all the other units constantly complained about thefts and break-ins - he didn't

well thats my bit - a little off topic

Try to keep my stuff tidy, got a cheap Halfords jobbie and some anti-slip mat, but I could do with some more socket holders

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

I thought this thread was a bit sad to start with, but weirdly I'm finding it quite interesting :) I 've got all my tools in one of these at the moment

Keeps everything toegther, but it's not big enough. I'd like a decent tool chest but it's hard to justify the cost as I don't get to spend much time in the garage *oh well*

Hi,
I'm almost living in my workshop at the moment and it's took me 22 years to amass the tools and equipment I've got. It all comes down to what you can afford and what works for you :)
You've got to keep it organised though or things soon get lost :(
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Too many tools for a cabinate and they are too restrictive when working! I have a shadow board that runs the length of my work shop and a tool box that I take to other work shops that I can work from but never gets opened in the work shop. I can reach up and pick what tool I want without marching over to a cabinet. One other point, its a lot easier to steal a cabinet or chest than a shadow board because all the good tools are kept locked away right.

I put the tools im using for the job in a plastic carry tray. This comes to the job and keeps the tools of the floor and stops them rolling away. Then clean them and put them back in my tool box.
