Right guys it’s been a while since I last updated this just haven’t really had the time to sort pic’s out and post them up really, well here goes it.
Heres the pics In no particular order
Cam timing

Fuel pipes

And the pretty much completed engine

Engine on the way in

And finally it went in

I’ve done a little bit more so there will be more pics later on!! It’s taking much longer than I thought just working out where to relocate things in the engine bay , and making new brackets etc, is time consuming to say the least.
Anywho
Cheers for looking
Luke

Looking really nice. The engine and bay detailing makes a massive difference to the finished car.

yeah essentially, They are suppose to be quick release but they arent that quick as the pin that locks the 2 halves together is a proper pita, also worth noting that i had to modify them slightly so the engine would locate nicely when lowering it in.

also a bit aorried abou tthe width of the ring land as this is a forced induction application. would rather see 2 compression rings and thicker lands, personally :)

EDIT posted this after only rading page one, so sorry if it doesnt follow the flow of the conversion :)

well i've not done to much to this since i got it started as i have been eagerly awaiting the rolling road session which was yesterday at ab garage in hawarden i couldn't recommend them more they were brilliant!! Which is unfortunately more than i can say for a company that are apparently a series specialists that work out of coalville as once all the little niggly bits were sorted yesterday the guys at ab were just adjusting the map on the mega jolt before they set about setting up the fueling when pop with the engine doing no more than ticking over one of the core plugs that the aforementioned coalville based company fitted blew out and ended my day on the dyno upon inspection ive found that the core plugs were hardly knocked in *surprised* so now im back home and im going to replace them all

i will add pics and update this later when its running again

I was wondering how you were getting on yesterday.. shame mate sorry for you. Hopefully you will get it sorted and be back setup soon.

Ade is brilliant and him and Andy have a wealth of knowledge but you do have to wait to get in.

Hi all
It’s been a while since this was last updated there’ been a little progress of late after a few backward steps
Well, where to start? After replacing all the very poorly fitted core plugs that ended the last rolling road session, I thought I’d change things around a bit before the next rolling road session and on some advice from Gr4h4m, I thought I’d try fitting a bike carb that id acquired
So here’s some pic’s

Off to the rolling road

Unfortunately when I got to the rolling road with the new carb setup, it was soon noticeable under load conditions that the carb was unsuitable (found out it was designed to be gravity fed) as it was flooding whilst running at idle so we dropped the fuel pressure and after doing this it leaned off to much higher up the rev range.
So having brought the hif44 carb with me I swapped the carb’s and went about setting up the ignition this was going well and just before they set about doing some re-profiling on the needle out of nowhere the engine began smoking like I’ve never seen before (no pic’s unfortunately), needless to say this ended the second trip to the rolling road but I will add even with all the smoke it was still running on all four cylinders?

Quick video just minutes before it became an expensive smoke machine!!

http://s725.photobucket.com/albums/ww251/l...16102009004.flv

They guys at AB had a quick look at the bores, pistons and rings for me with a clever camera and screen gadget which showed no damage what so ever, so with that I assumed a head gasket failure and headed home for a partial strip down and this is what I found.

All pistons bores and rings looked like new and the Head gasket also looked fine!! So can anyone spot the issue??

Anyway so if you hadn’t noticed there is a hole about 3mm diameter above cylinder 1. The hole breaks out into the main oil gallery feed to the rocker gear, so I had LOTS of oil going into the engine where it shouldn’t be, Which explains the smoke.

So now for the progress as the head was a write off a quick pm to Benross and I had a fully worked 12g295 head on order (casting supplied) spec as follows:

28cc in the chambers
Valves sizes 33mm race valves and 29.5 race valves 214N stainless plasma nitrided
Manganese bullet guides
Rover seals,
Full ported
stellite unleaded hardened exhaust seats fitted
3 angle valve seats

This has since been collected. Thanks go to Benross for some excellent workmanship, a nicely made cuppa and good conversation!!

Pic’s

Christmas then happened and nothing much happened on the car.

So to get up to date some new stuff arrived this week including a specialist components lcb to replace the current rusty one

(I can’t recommend these guys enough, firstly the quality of the manifold simply wipes the floor with most others on the market (it even comes with lambda bosses and bungs!!) And the price £63.83, for a stainless manifold is pretty amazing!! Imo anyway.
And secondly the service was great I ordered it on Thursday this week and it was on my doorstep 9am Friday morning.)

Also this week I’ve had a 1 bar boost gauge arrive, one of the new DSN classics (retro sport) CNC ally cylinder head water takeoff’s and a bargain ultimate engine steady of minimadmotorman thanks again (this will be used in conjunction with other steady parts to avoid the charger pulleys etc)

So tomorrow will be a busy day that should hopefully see me putting most of it back together ready for the third attempt to get it set up at the rolling road!!

That’s all for now!!
