cheers mike

I have just been on the mirage website looking at the manifold but they only seem to do it for the T2 and not the T3, where can you get a manifold for a T3 from?

cheers

No, you can only get turbo manifolds from a metro turbo *wink*

With the ever present danger of me saying SEARCH, here goes.

The metro turbo manifold is designed for a T3 an adapter plate can be fitted to make it accept lots of other turbos. If you are fitting it to a mini you will needs bulkhead box fitting. The mirage manifold is specifically designed to fit a T2 onto a mini without the need of a bulkhead box. There are people about who will custom build you a manifold for any turbo you like.

If you had searched for 'manifold' and done some reading you would know this.

Unfortunately the metro turbo manifold register was lost when Rover went bust so if you want one put an add in the wanted section, keep an eye on the for sale section of look on ebay.

Did I mention doing a search?

I know that if you don't use the mirage manifold you have to fit a bulkhead box, i don't want to box the bulkhead so i am going to have to go the T2 route i'm guessing and get myself a mirage manifold and a T2 turbo off a R5

I have read that T2 turbos are also water cooled but is it correct that you don't have to have this connected?

As for searching the forum i am just reading every useful thread that i see trying to learn more.

You don't need to connect the water cooling, the oil is essential though.

The standard verto gives up not much over 100, but the RTS conversion has been shown to do lots more and its cheep too.

how long would you guys think it would take a garage to fit the turbo conversion?

i would like to fit it myself but wouldn't know where to start

Do it yourself. It was not long ago that I was comsidering having my head gasket done by a garage. Now I've just finishedy first engine build.

It will no doubt need tinkering with in the future, so you might as well get to know how it works now.

None of it's rocket science, if I can do it anybody can. Just work out what you need to do, what you need to do it and how you need to do it in advance then allow yourself plenty of time to do it. If you're not sure ask, it's much better than fucking it up...

Hey, i'm kinda in the same boat as you, still deciding on what path to take and how much work to take on myself. Probably gonna have a go at 998 turbo and learning how to weld so i can make my own manifolds. With minis its all about learning to do stuff yourself. Bookmark any useful pages on this site as pretty much all the questions you need answers for have been asked already. Plus they all get abit moody with people reasking questions. I found this tread pretty good for a general idea of what you'll be looking at:

80 nto 90 at the fly.

As for using a garage, I did convert my 998 in 20 hours, but the current job has taken probably more like 100hours, even at a conservative £30 per hour for a garage this is a fair wodge of money.

Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph
