i imagine the rings were gaped when it was built. Like you said a good long run might sort it

Tom puts it so well _ I have already offered him my apology when he told me the same thing and with a few miles on it and bit of discreet thrashing its fine.

Hello We run the race engines (NA) on the Dyno (rolling road) to break them in. Here is how. Have the dyno operator set it up with low resistance. Do three runs up to 3500 then three runs up to 5500 then three runs up to 7500. The last engine i had to do another set up to 7500 but the rings were thicker on the swifty pistons. they smoke pretty good then the room magically clears up. Once it's broken in, start the power runs.

Racecar spelled backwards is Racecar

That sounds good, im gonna have it set up properly soon anyway so it makes sense. Thats if it hasn't already been broken in before then though

OK Tom here it is

You said stop fretting and get some miles on it - later in the same thread I acknowledged how right you were and offered an apology for doubting you.

I have an inbred lack of self confidence with engines !!

Splendid, is this where if I was a gloating bugger I could say I told you so? *tongue*

Could the fact some engines smoke and others don't be due to way the bores have been honed?

the bores on my engine looked quite rough compared to the mirror finish you see in the likes of med photos when honed also my mates, however they didn't smoke at all at first start up. these were using std turbo pistons and 73.5 powermax ones respectively.
