On the hillclimber I have a switch on the gearstick that detects first (and maybe second) gear. This activates a solenoid that drops the boost.

(don't get this crude method confused with wil and the TT2 he has propper boost control)

Typically, I can't read. That arrived today and it's just the fooking hose. BAC ebayer with his confusing pictures. The hunt continues. Arse.

I would have expected so - but I must stress I don't know, never seen one, but from its age, probably.

If it was a modern PWM modulating valve you would need to know the PWM frequency to enter into MS anyway to get it to work best.

For the MS boost control, an Amal valve from a Cossie is probably the cheapest UK option, you can get them on eBay for less than £8 if you bide your time :)

I think the solenoid valve on the Metro was PWM, remember the ECU had a MAP sensor on board, and also a revs input from the coil.

Fair point Tom, like I say I've never seen one, just surprised for that age.

But to get it to work best with MS, you need to enter the PWM frequency and if that isn't published anywhere it's a bit trial and error (or connect a metro ECU to a scope and see what it does on the timebase :) )

I use a Saab valve (because I have one) but they seem a bit expensive on ebay

One of these:

My weapon of choice....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/escort-rs-turbo-...=item336a248722

It will eventually sell for a lot more but I have genuinely picked up two at less than £8 by being patient.

You can drive these PWM from something like MS or just on/off with a current limit resistor.

i like the idea of this one!

so how do you plumb it in? do you need a bleed valve?

Yes

We have it snail - bleed valve input, bleed valve output - actuator. The solenoid will go on the 'bleed' output (middle leg) on the bleed valve so we can open and shut the bleed leg at the push of a button.

thats great thanks! what type of switch are you going for? a simple on/off switch?
i've been looking at these but they're momentary contact switches:

they would be good but you would have to hold the button in, not ideal.

I have two Metty turbo boost solenoid valves with the wires and connectors intact.

Anyone want one, pm me. £10 ea inc UK p&p.

Brett. I have an ECU for ya if you'll drop me a few quid to post it.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

A bit of a thread revival but would the following be suitable?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/astra-vxr-boost-...6#ht_500wt_1205

It seems to be the cheapest type on ebay at the moment. If someone has a metro metty turbo solenoid....that would be grand!
