I've found the secret to the roll pin is to use the biggest hammer you can find.

The intial stiction of the pin is the problem, once it's moving it comes out easily.
First time I did one I spent half an hour tapping it with a BA flogging hammer and rounded off the end of the punch, spoke to a chum for advice and it came out first blow with a BFH.

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.

Hahaha!

Either that or learn how to screw your car together properly so the engine isn't in and out every 2 mins!

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Not much that cant be solved with a 2 1/2 lb lumphammer, but having the right tool is half the job.

No more fighting with those roll pins can only be a good thing.
As with all things some have developed unique work rounds to the roll pin issue so for them there is absolutely no need for this. But for many others there is absolutely a need for this unique work round for the roll pin issue.

Put it in reverse. Proper stepped punch for the task in hand. Knock it out. Done. I don't and never have understood why folk find this so difficult.

I've found that the trick is to get the car high enough to be able to swing said percussive correction tool.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

It's much easier with the car in the air I agree, but if you crawl underneath and keep swinging it'll come out eventually. Wd40 sometimes helps.

Ah ah, you just have to lift the car by the front of the subframe as high as you can and put your head under the gearbox!!! (be carefull to well secure the car ) and punch the pin in after put the gear stick in reverse position....and that's all, you save 36 pounds !!!!!

I agree with Tom. Stick it in reverse and knock out the pin closest to the gearbox. There is no need to do this with the car jacked high either

The hardest part is jacking the mini up.

What the mind can conceive the mini can achieve
MITP 2012 17.01 seconds 1/4 mile against "The Don"
MITP 2013 16.83 seconds 1/4 mile

I just have mechanical sympathy. Twatting the fuck out of a cantilevered rod hanging out of a support in an alloy housing, and resorting to a bigger hammer when the bad boy doesn't shift, is something that just doesn't feel right to me.
I had one many years ago that was seemingly welded in place; it would mushroom out the pin punch and just not shift the roll pin. Ultimately I had to pop the other roll pin, and ended up managing to get the other one out on the bench using heat and mole grips to squeeze it out.

I do like the speed with which this minispares one might be able to be removed. Still isn't going to make me buy one though

I totally agree Dave

I have an old drill chuck key, that, through years of use has a step cold forged into its handle and finds the mark ever time wit' lump hammer, however this looks like you just lever it off with a screw driver in about 5 seconds with out the associated trauma....

We'll thought out IMO, especially for racers who have the motor in and out a lot

have to say, I remember back in the day cursing trying to get out a variety of these pins before I made a short punch pin with a centre point to aid location. I hold it with some long nose mole grips so I don't have to worry about twatting my hand/fingers with the appropriately sized hammer. Never had an issue since

If that doesn't work get the next size hammer.
