Dave, those are my thoughts exactly, we tried connecting another battery directly to the starter, but still no good, going to try another starter this morning......

its just not turning fast enough

My Mini build diary

none yet chaps, we didnt get chance to do much on sunday cos i overslept and his cars at my house...

Right guys, finally got time to sort out my little problem....

Got the megajolt hooked up and loaded a basic map to try and start it.

No joy, no different from before, and still cranking slowly even with 2 fully charged batteries....

Next step, steal Bud666's starter motor

Instantly cranks over twice as fast, and after a few tweaks of the map, fires up like a dream.

So, as for the *brand new* starter that I purchased from minispares, I shall be visiting them this weekend to install in someones arsehole.

Oh, and a quick question about the map.....
If you are between say 2000 and 2500, does it take an average value between your 2 advance values, or does it just switch between the 2 when the revs swap from 2xxx to 2500?

BTW - If it's like every other ECU, it'll extrapolate the value as a straight-line between the two points, hence if 2000rpm it's at 10, and 3000rpm it's at 20, then at 2500 it'll be 15 (I've explained it as simply as possible!)...

I am not sure on that Dave, I know some of the early MegaJolts were not advanced enough to do this, although I think work was in progress to allow them to perform in this manner.

Yes! I think the version 3 can interpolate between load sites, but the earlier versions just use each "bin" value until the next is reached.

Still better than a dizzy though....

My brother assures me that the V2s that we run interporlate between bins.

Mini spares are a joke - they cannot get an order right and when they do - the parts are damaged or dont work!

I had a screwed up order from mini spares recently. Im going to try min-its next time.

None of the fancy bullshit adverts and catalogues, just good quality parts, that arrive when promised, for a reasonable price.........

MJ can interpolate (I'm 99% sure)...

It depends what frimware you are running... the hardware differeces between the V2.2 and V3 are not really very important.

V3 will be able to do more in the long run but right now both are fine.

V3 is a better design and higher quality PCB.

V2 and V3 boards will both interpolate.

Originally mj didnt do it, however an update last year (which meant you needed to rewrite the chip, but all ones are now like it) gives interpolation, as well as other desirable features like a softcut revlimiter and something else that i cant remember

oh and the main benefits of v3 are for running a tps, which isnt ideal on a turbo, a MAP is much better, and the ability to switch between 2 different ignition maps, which could be useful but a little f&f in my opinion-"danger to intake manifold"
