Ok then, a small update I did not get much done today as i was not in the mood. As i found out last night a very dear friend was killed. :(:(:(

So I went to minispeed today and got all the bits I needed to get started.

I got the wife in to help with the cam timing.

All done

Sorry to hear about your friend mate. Sad news indeed.

I'd be tempted to change the centre main bolts as the ones you have are only three stripe. Carl Austin can sell you some tip/top finnings CAT bolts with washers which are of a much higher grade.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Or look at it this way, Would you be happy with such critical bolts being of a lower quality then austin rover supplied originally? I wouldn't.

Hi Mark, No mate I have never had these fail, however I have never used them. Van and my clubby engine both have higher grade bolts in. I'm merely going on the same assumption as minimole that it is a false economy to fit a lower grade bolt than the original manufacturer supplied for the sake of a few beer tokens. 8-)

Very sorry about your friend.

Im impressed with your progress. I really cant be arsed in this weather even with a heated garage, but I suppose pissing about in the cold is second nature to someone like you

I seriously doubt it!

Hi Mark, No mate I have never had these fail, however I have never used them. Van and my clubby engine both have 5 dash bolts in. Agreed - just wondered.. as i guess these were the ones in my block when i sold it to Simon. If i was building it now i would also use the 5 dash, but they obviously did ok at the power i ran.

and minimole im well aware of the benefits *wink*

Simon, sorry for your loss - but keep up the good work, your making great progress mate.

The banjo could be a problem in the turbo drain, you might have to swap it for a straight union.
