WOW im likin the rear valance when will you be doing the front i cant wait

look what arrived today i'm a happy chap! just gotta sort a trigger wheel & a trip to my local scrappy for the coil pack,eidis & sensor & i'll try to have a play to get her running on this, maybe i will have megajolt for the turbominis rolling road day if i can get there, should ok for it though

any up date yet mate

due to me being a muppet!getting to do jobs on my lil mini has been slow due to cutting my hand open! (plonker hehe)

my only update at the moment is that my clutch slave cylinder has gone which i'm doing at the mo but its bloody cold working on the car outside )

got a pre-verto clutch setup (cheers to bud666) which i'm going over cleaning/refurbing etc for the 998 turbo motor, also fitted an adjustable engine steady-bar (cheers t2clubby) & an engine steady repair bracket (cheers danboy) on the radiator side of the motor i've also fitted one of those ultimate engine steadies to to lock my motor in the car a bit more solid, collected a few parts & working on trying to get a really cheapo laptop to use with the megajolt, keep missing them on egay! P making space is a bit of a priority aswell as the garage is a mess & even i cant find the bits i want to put on my car

this weekend i'll be making a template or to for my polycarbonate windows P woo hoo! that'll be a great thing to sort on my car to have plastic windows! & i'm going to drill some holes in my doors to make them lighter, pics will come after the weekend! cheers!!!

i've just been keeping an eye on egay for the cheapo £55-60+post jobbys, i think battery, disk space for maps, operating system & serial port are the main thing & enough ooomf to run megajolt/megasquirt, it wont be used for anything else other than the car

Unless your really luck laptops in that price range are probalby going to have battery issues etc.

I'd be looking for 800MHz, serial, 10Gb HD and USB as a minimum. OS isn't as important .. 98SE would be my choice as it's just so stable ..... 2000 Pro is the next best thing IMHO

I know of a chap at work who's selling a laptop with a new battery & in car power adaptor for £40, if you want I'll get you the details on Monday.

woo-hoo got the mini running again, bloody slave cylinders!!! i feel posative about my mini again now so some progress should come abit quicker again, if ya car dont start & drive specially as mine is my daily driver its a bit annoying P its running agin, oil pressure is crap & the engine seems to be making alot of oilsmoke/mist from the crankcase breather on tappet chest cover??? aslong as the maching is done on my motor i should have a turbo motor in this car for avon, fingers crossed boyo's!!!

ive just done my front valance so will share pics with you to see if you still want to do it

right peeps, i've not been about for a while & its all sysems go to haveanother mad blast of work on my oldschool weekend racer (but daily driver) mini, i'm have camera troubles again (they are crap but i by cheapo jobbys) but i managed to score a ally tank of the size shape i want & i should have a machined block,crank, nxt week (my fingers are crossed) still waiting for my 295 head but hey! i wont comlain or moan if its a decent job & works well

i think i'll lop the valance off like the car above this weekend! & see if i can get a rear side window out to make a template for my polycarb windows! i dont want to bugger the window seals up!!! so hopefully i should have a ream of pics & notes on my lil ride! will it be done for avon, its looking shadey to say the least but if the engine & head come back for me to build i'll blast at it!in the eves & the neighbors will have to put up with my singing whilst i work haha D

woo hoo! i got me a non-vernier belt drive today, 2nd hand but it seems all in order, gonna replace the seals & belt, best too anyhow! & i'll see if my dad is feeling friendly enough to po;ish the case or if he cant be arsed then i'll clean it up & paint it! it was cheap too so i'm not complaining,

roger, i should have a pulley wheel sorted, & for balancing i'll use a place in brum that a few ppl suggested i dont a post on it, i'll check back & put there name here on an edit, why? have you used someone & been happy with what they do!

well i sorted my threaded galley plugs this eve, found some in the size i needed but had the cut them down 3.5mm, i hope the seal properly! i think they will though to be honest! super confident in my home engineering this eve hehe! i'vwe got them to sit just below the block face aswell so all will be well

oh they are allen headed bolts too!

I haven't used them, but I don't know of anywhere else locally that does this work.
I had my engine balanced by Autosprint in B'ham, long since gone :(

bloody hell autosprint in brum used to have a good rep! my unkle has a lotus elan s3 & had his engine done there in about 1978, hope it dont take long to get the balancing done on mine!

blummin heck at last i can put some pics up of some engine parts post machining!









i'll get some pics of my belt drive setup later tonight, my local engine parts supplier got me a new belt for £11 which is a little cheaper than minispares i think, i still need to get some new oil seals for the belt drive but i think they are obly £4 for the two!

i'll do some better pics of parts & the engine build once it gets underway!

next step, block cleaning & painting!

any advice plz do! i am a novice to this lark!

Make sure you run a countersink over those head stud holes it will help to reduce the chances of the threads pulling out and the head gasket blowing

bargain (i hope) non-vernier belt-drive kit with new belt!!! it'll get new oil seals & a clean up/painted, if it looks like any parts are missing plz say! i did'nt pay much for it




is it best i countersink the headstud threads then? any other block mods i can do at home before i clean/paint the block & start bolting bits togther!

cleaned & painted the belt drive housing & the pulleys this eve, also remebered the correct bolts for all the parts of the block, ie alternator bracket, oild filter housing etc etc, next job is paint the block i reckon, i have a can of yellow smoothrite!!! i'll sort some pics as the build progress's

made this today! the dump pipe probobly wont be the on i use & the dump valve itself i cant remeber where i got it, what do ya think chaps!



also splashed out on this to go with my flywheel lol
i really should have stuck with a triangle QH type but i got tempted & feel silly for getting it! it matches the flywheel though i thought

cleaned up my belt drive casings & fitted new screws as the old ones were foobared!


i've beed setting the straps on my flywheel/backplate too! i made spacers for the flywheel bolts from the tubing that goes inside the poly bushes on engine steadys, seems to be plent tough enough, i'll get pics of that soon, i think i'll do my 998turbo engine build as a separate thread so its clearer as to what i've done & if you chaps give me advice on it its contained to the that thread, hopefully start that this week if i get my crank pully & rotating assembly balanced! fingers crossed
