bought a new radiator from minspares. have a problem with the old heater matrix, so had to bypass it to the head. got her running again, she sounds even sweeter with the new exhaust on. due to hearing about a few people who have had people run into the back of them, and also due to the poor light out put of the rear lights, i have put a 3rd high level led brakelight on my car, to let the old dear behind me know when i am breaking. spent a few hours wiring in the electro luminescent dials and gauges, and have wired the wipers in. it will be like spagetti junction behind my dash when i'm finished.

this should be what my engine bay should finally look like bar the coolant hose going over the engine

been a while since i've updated this.

finally finished my dash

and switches

and then just last weekend got it taxed and tested. poped down to mikeanics rolling road on tuesday, left him to work his magic and out poped 105bananas and 110 curly whirlys! (quick question does anyone know whether he gives figures at the flywheel or at the wheels?)

got the printouts here

a few more pictures

indeed i am. can't stop driving the thing! i did have a few niggles, as you do with any car, like a small leak from the gear selector, and the rear suspension seems abit too harsh. these will be sorted soon though!

Looks great, like how you have managed to get neat cut arches on the flip front ... usually difficult with Sportpacks.

Can you reach the heater when driving??

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

i had alot of trouble with the front arches, ended up using fiberglass ones, but they still don't line up 100%.

when i'm strapped in i can't even reach the headunit.

been having trouble with the engine recently. blew 2 head gaskets. my fault as i didn't check whether the head was warped or not, only to find it was like a banana when i did. before getting it skimmed i thought i'd better check what compression ratio was............9.7. thats just abit too high for a turbo motor. so i've now lowered this to around 8.7 by opening up the chambers in the head. i've also fitted some 1.5 roller rockers.

a quick visit to mikeanics today and i came back with a bit less torque at only 100ft/lbs but 5 more ponies at 110hp. the power graph is alot smoother now, and power delivery on the road is smoother too! i'm running 8-9psi of boost. when i do eventually get megajolt set up on the car i'll run around 10-11psi. at the moment i've got a mix between low end driveability and top end power.

two short vids

so the day has arrived when i install megajolt on the car.

the bits. i've opted for a brand new coil pack from fords (£90 brand spankers, free to me) with leads from an early engine ka i think (also free). mra blank, and some new plugs aswell.

megajolt arrived this morning direct from martin

just checking the clearance on the crank pulley

vr sensor fitted, and proposed location for the coil.

proposed location for the edis module. i would mount the coil and module elsewhere but i don't have any room! so far its cost me 150 in total for everything, not bad going if i say so myself.

Looks good, the MS will really help drivability.

Mikes figures are all at the flywheel btw.

wil h, yeah i asked him when i was last up.

coupe, the dials were from some fella on theminiforum.co.uk, he only made a batch of 20, but i think he may be making some more. they turn up on ebay once in a while.

timboc, the switch panel i made myself from polycarbonate. doesn't take long just a bit of paitents with a dremel and ruler!

shes all running! took the advice given and check she ran in limp home mode (with out megajolt attached) first. it took more time but enabled me to make sure everything was right. wired up megajolt and she purrs like a puma! already she is better at starting and idling when cold.

everything laid out

quick engine bay pic

the edis module tidied up and a new air filter

and the megajolt bolted in place

took her for a quick run today, nothing too lary just a quick check. as above i'm already impressed with the way it picks up and its not even setup! going to spend all of tomorrow having a go, so at least i've got something till i get it rolling roaded

polycarbonate was off an online plastic supplier can't remember who. think the thickness was 3mm or 5mm. basically remove the old surround off your old steel one, and useit for the new one. use the old one as a template to cut the polycarbonate. the choke cable holds one end, and i was going to do something to hold the other end in but just dabbed abit of superglue on it in the end.

cheers. again took her for another run today this time using a version of wil h's map. definately better. i can't wait till i get it setup up properly

heres and intresting thing i came across. when fitting my megajolt i took the map reading from the manifold (a spacer plate which was meant for the dump valve) and was running the boost gauge of the vac advance on the carb. now i don't know if my carb was fubared or what, but when the throttle plate is shut it shows no vaccum. open it slightly and it registers on the gauge. i asume this is normal, but i wonder if poeple who are using the vac advance as the take off are getting the full potential from their mj?

also a note for poeple who are having tacho problems. mine didn't like to register on light throttle after around 2500k, but if you take the feed for the tacho from the pip, it works fine. saves drilling the edis module for pin11, or even going the coil route.

Hi,
You won't get any thing from the vac adv pipe on idle as it's blocked off by the throttle butterfly.
Blank that off and connect everything to the manifold *wink*
Cheers,
Gavin :)
