Hi,
From what I've heard the 16v (non A) upset the handling somewhat, maybe the 1/4 times too?
From my point of view you should have an A series in a Mini, that's what it was made for.

My Mini build diary

I always thought it was down to the dodgy gearing that the hybrid cars seem to end up with

It may be spoken about sticky tyres, set up suspension, nitrous etc, but i have a set 032r's, the worst setup of suspension in the world (dodgy angles, rear spring rates that dont suit the car at all), no nitrous, i just got lucky through trial and error where it seemed to have come together

Plus my car is no purpose drag car, it manages 2500-3000 miles a year, and the engine and gearbox had been untouched for 2 years except changing turbos and putting the diff in when i ran the 12, and i think matt does alot more that that with his mega powered car so theyre not quite so bad as everyone makes out

Going off topic but the handling with a big old vauxhall up front can be sorted, that i do know.
Nics right with the gearing, there's a big gap in the ratios, when using 13's.
1st is too low, even 2nd gives loads of wheelspin, 3rd less so then its all over.
1/4 mile aint long enough

back on topic, its one of the best mags for a while :)

Woo ive got a copy now!! It looks amazing, and matts does, we must have had a rather good photographer!! (except that pic of me-my dad pointed out that I look like Hermann Munster)

Anyway....Theyre two really good articles I thought, some of my story does get a bit mixed up date-wise, it was deseamed last year, but even so it still tells the story of how it was done in several rebuilds, and there wasnt a nice plug in there for the mirage manifolds, but im quite happy with it, i like how it reads and it isnt full of crap

I only wish i remembered to give the writer my thankyous before he went, doh

and cheers for your photography skills matt, you managed to hide all the bad points hahaha

I went out and bought the magazine today - first time I've bought a magazine in years, and had to drive 20 miles to find a town with a newsagent large enough to sell it !!! (Mini what Sir ??? from my local newsagents) - good articles and photos, made me think a bit about my project but leaves me with a few technical questions that I'll post in the appropriate sections of the forum...

fooking hell missed this, nice job on the features gentlemen. but wana chip in with my 2p,

your taking it to serious, on the 16vminiclub everyoen has ditched the a-series. for there own personal reasons they dislike the engine, so naturally there will be a noticable slant to the banter.

everyone on there knows that the a-series goes down the 1/4 faster, and everyone knows why. im trying my best to get a hybrid mini down the quarter fast, but developemnt is expensive and slow, and most of my ideas come from you lot sadly though those ideas have not produced fantastic times

Its been so long since I have been that keen to buy any of the Mini Magazines, and this one did not disapoint. Whats more, several decent articles one after the other in the same mag, now that has to be a first in a long time :)
