I had fuel coming out that hole because the float had got stuck in the float chamber and wasn't shutting off the needle valve.

Oh right!!

And how does the float get stuck, i thought it was quite a simple contraption? Fuel only comes out when i've taken the carb off and looking around it so its probably not spouting out when its on the car, can check that though.

It is a simple contraption, from where the engine hadn't been run for ages it got stuck, I took it apart cleaned it up and reassebled it.

I assume you have rebuilt the carb looking at other posts so it shouldn't be a problem. I have no idea why it coming out that hole then.

Well well!!

I looked up the "hi flow" needle valve on avonbar, and forgot it came with the brass fitting that has a larger seat than the standard item.

Thought id give the standard item a go so put that back in. Went to set the fuel pressure by eye as per Wil_H's post. I had to wind the adjuster screw on the fpr pretty much all the way in before I saw anything coming out of the jet.

Hooked my boost gauge up to the fuel-in coming out of the fpr and and the reading was 15psi!?!?!

Decided to give it a go, as I dont know if I trust that gauge now.

Anyway it fired up faily easily and ran for the longest time it has yet!

Got a video, quite smokey!!

http://www.vimeo.com/4629038

So yeah, thats alot better, seeing as it actually runs.

Does the action of the dumpvalve look right to you guys? It looked to me like it was open the whole time or "dumping", but im not sure?

As I say quite smokey but I think they all are right? :s

Just need to set the fuel pressure properly now with a proper gauge.

The dump valve - remember they work off manifold vacuum - lift off to change gear and the manifoild suddenly goes from boost to vacuum so dump valve opens.

So at tickover (vacuum) and blip the throttle (vacuum lost), yes - it should do that.

Smoke from the exhaust - normal for new build.
Smoke from all over the engine - excessive use of lubricants and gasket sealers :) .... It will soon go.

Glad to see it running though *happy*

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

Ahh good good.

Yeah was a bit smokey to be honest, got a bit of a headache now haha.

It's still a bit lumpy but i'm guessing a rolling road setup and the correct fuel pressure will help that?

Glad you got your problem sorted, you must be chuffed!

Does anybody use a high flow needle? Is it just a larger diameter?

Yeah i'm pretty chuffed with it!!

Is still a right bastard to start though, sometimes it just wont fire? You can see those spark test thingys I was on about, they always flash when cranking now but its a bit hit and miss with it actually trying to fire.

Get the fuel pressure sorted properly next on the list.

The plan was to try and drive the car as it is with the ducting intercooler over to Bens so we can make some brackets and fit the i/c properly as I dont have the toolage at mine.

I think theres a manifold gasket leak but the nuts are Chuck Norris tight?

Worst comes to worse i'll have to take it all off and sort it. Im just happy it actually runs though :)

Yeah I thought it was a good idea at the time the high flow needle, havnt heard of anyone actually using one on here though, so I wasted £18 I think haha.

Do you want to borrow a fuel pressure gauge?

I keep finding that most of these 'new super duper upgraded' components are a load of bollocks, if you keep to the std stuff it never seems to go wrong

Yeah as you said other day "hi flow" to the point where its hi-flowing too much basically filling my plenum up lol.

A fuel pressure gauge would be perfectamondo dude i'll text you or something.
