Well, I thought I'd go and see the local RR guy, as I'd booked it well over a month ago - and despite my lousy clutch (wed night), thought it would be a little naughty to cancel it at this short notice, especially as i'd not met him before - and need to keep in good favou with him as there is no-one else I'd want to use in a 100-mile radius... *oh well*

Anyways...
It was a 'mustang dyno'; a well respected highly accurate modern 4wd system. One of these intersting ones that sit above the floor, meaning you have to drive up some long ramps onto it.

We did a few light runs to see what the mixture was upto. I've got a massive 'hole' around 2000rpm where - for some reason - the A/F ratio jumps from 12.9 to 10.9, then increases to 12.7 again, before gradually droping to 11.8 as the boost comes in. Wierd thing is I don't have a big step in my needle. More investigation needed methinks!
We also had a knock sensor hooked up, and saw no evidence at all of any problems.

So, throwing a power run together, we experienced clutch slip at 1-bar boost, so we dropped it to 12psi (which ultimately peaked at 13psi at max rpm) and took a run all the way to 6600rpm.

The end result, was (at wheels) 101bananas and 100 curly-wurly's. *surprised**surprised**surprised**surprised**surprised**surprised**surprised**surprised**surprised**surprised**surprised**surprised*

We didn't put any more advance into it (which i wanted to try) as my pot-box on my DTA setup had decided to not work. A bit anoyed at that, but I'll get that sorted and get back there for a final comparison before throwing the injection system on.

Anyways - this is around 2psi less boost than i ran the other night - when i got a 13.65@103ish mph.
So - according to one set of numbers, I'm one of the lower powered vehicles on this site! According to another set of numbers (timing tickets) I'm one of the quickest.

Thank fook for bananas and curly-wurlys, or I'd have to hang my head in shame!
*laughing*

My sister is so fit I won't show anyone her picture

Lake District

Mmmmmmmmmmm ......... you thought from seat of the pants driving that it felt quicker, and it's proven itself on the strip.
A real conflict between this and the rolling road results. Certainly a head scratcher. *oh well*

Sounds similar to ours Dave. Lower peak power, but because the turbo is a better match it give a much longer flatter torque curve and improves drivability and times.

I'm 'theoretically' down on torque and HP though!

The torque curve is VERY impressive though, it couldn't be any flatter - and the hp increase is a perfect straight line.
Made me feel a little better when the guy said he's never seen a modified car with a curve like it - "it's something like you'd see on a factory motor" was one of his comments.
I'm 100% loving my new turbo - proves that my turbo calculations are right (which is good news for you and Wil) *wink*

I've definately got the 'bug' again now. I'm going to gut some trees down, mow the lawn, then pop to work and do some more design work on my clutch!
I've set a target to get a 13.0 on yoko's this year - and it'll be even more impressive if i achieve it on just 120 bananas at the wheels LOL!

hell dave , find that fig hard to believe with that high tem speed you got just before!

Try some where else maybe, but like you say it's a fig and you have proven it on the track:)

I'm not going to bother trying anywhere else; The guy knows his stuff just like Ray at your RR. Wheras peeps go to PB's and come away with a well sorted motor that (cough cough) might be a little optimistic on outright bananas, I've got the same thing, but seems to read low - or maybe it's 100% real ? So what! If it pulls in the times, that's the evidence i need!

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

i was going to say the same as jim, it would of been good if you got a before figure

i saw one of these "rollers" in a mag, there is one place in the uk with them, supposedly they should be more acurate they said, however it appears this set have low reading, so as with most rollers it needs to be taken with optmism

Well, bit of an update on this:

We wound the boost down as the clutch was sliping at 1bar (14.5psi)

I took it out for a drive later in the afternoon, and it felt a little slower than normal - Ah! Still on the lower boost. Wound the bleed valve out a full turn and WOWEE! just 2psi more boost makes a 'night and day' difference; much more so than it did on the last turbo...
And I've got more to come!
Thank you turbo gods!

Its the area under the graph in the rpm range you are using that gets you up the strip quickety quick. An engine with a wide usable torque/ power curve will be quicker in real life (generally) than a screamer with a high but narrow peak.
