After loking at others setups at Avon its looks like front mount is the way to go.

Does anyone know if is possible to fit a front mount rad without moving the grill forward, and still use a dizzy?

Ive got a freebee corsa rad, but i want to avoid cutting my front end about if its never gonna fit!

Any advice/ideas would help.

Cheers

Round front or clubby? In a clubby its quite feasible and just needs the grille panel cutting back.

In a round front? IMO no bloody chance! Even using a side-exit dizzy cap that are shorter than standard I think you will really struggle.
Could be a good excuse for a MegaJolt conversion perhaps?

yea its round nose! makes things just a bit tighter.

'side-exit dizzy cap' what year of mini/metro are they off?

Do they use the same leads?

i use a side mount 4 core rad with additional electric fan and have no problems (dont even really need the extra fan exept on very hot days in stationary traffic).

if you fit a front mounted rad were are you going to fit the intercooler and how will it get cold air?

How about just running a secondary rad matt, tons of people do that.

we have a turboed mini here in Norway (dars here on this forum owns it), that has a front mounted intercooler behind the grill. He was using a side exit dizzy cap, and did have room for the IC.

Yea i did think of using a secondary fan, still might if this rad wont fit!

I was going to use a cosworth intercooler just above the grill and cut holes in the bonnet.

Ive got a supercools 2 core rad which seemed to do the job, but the more cluttered my engine bay has got the less heat dissipation (spelling??) im getting.

If i fit a front mount rad and expansion tank it would increase the water capacity and hopefully keep it a bit cooler!

iirc side exit dizzy caps are only available for points (and maybe mk1 turbo dizzies?)?

Yea about that oil cooler.....oops!

When i tried to undo the pipe it kind of snapped the fitting off, the only use it has now is an oil drain. lol

I'll have to get one at some point for certain.

So by sound of things i can rule out side exit dizzy cap. but it can be done (ish).

Let me know how much room there is as i have an mpi rad and fan sitting in the garage. I will get the tape measure out and give you the dimensions if that helps?

Also looking at the mpi mini you could move the rad a little towards the right (if you have no inner wings on a flip front). This might give you enough room to run the dizzy however i think you will have to do something with the altenator?

offered it up last night....i think it will just fit with some 90 degree Ht leads, and cut the front valance and slam panel a touch.

The main problem is the alternator. I need a shorter fan belt.. about an inch shorter should do?

dont forget engine movement. after looking at my engine when on a rolling road, i would say you need a good amount of space for movement.

side exit dizzy caps are from the maestro.

Is that any year/engine size of a maestro?

Found this pic of Jon's car

it looks to be the same or similar size rad, not sure if he runs a fan or not though?
