As space is at a premium in the engine bay can you not remove the inner arches and get some strengthing bars that are used for the flip fronts to give you more room?

Just a thought, would it be of any use?

If the car is all steel front and welded properly you can pretty much remove what you like from the inner arches- as long as the subby is solid mounted - if it's not I would put additional bars in there before removing too much material

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

Hi,
I'd still put the bars in regardless. It'll develop stress fractures over time, with the crap roads and the torque trying to pull the subframe out *surprised*
Cheers,
Gavin :)

I asked the question about the bars, the response was divided 50/50. I fitted them to keep Mr MOT happy as there was a 50/50 chance he would fail it, aparently, just didnt need any hiccups absorbing more time as I wanted to go to Avon, it was MOT'd on that friday. I didnt want to fit them to be honest. Now they're in, i might take them out next year and see what happens on the MOT. Its only a matter of refitting them if it does actualy fail. But then I might have the removable front by then any way requiring them

Have you found it useful not having them there though?

surely it helps as a cooling aid too!!! having no inner wings, i.e air entering the engine-bay from the wheel-wells + you can mount ancillere items to the bars if need be!

plus it should loose a little weight from the car

more than likely! i know *tongue* but the cooling aspect is a valid point! specially if you made a way of ducting air from the arches to the motor & if you had a bonnet that was raised at the rear it should flow through well, thats my theory anyhow :oP

yes my charge cooler runs under the neaside wing and the outlet comes in past the bars. if i had inner arches this would have been a pain. also without the inner arches, there should be more airflow around the engine bay which is handy for hot turbo`s :) as already stated above ! also again as stated my above, my oil cooler is on one bar, and my second rad (for my take off after pot nearest to the clutch "1 or 4" always get em muddled, is on the other) i have holes cut into the back edge of bonnet rather than lifting the bonnet up at the back.
