Can anyone tell me how to wire in a smiths rev counter in a 3 clock pod from an '85 mairfair.
Its got 1 male bullet, 1 female bullet and a male spade connector.
Thought it was a case of wiring the spade connector to voltage stablizer (middle connection), male bullet to -ve on coil and female bullet to 12v +ve. This doen't work though, as it stops the engine. its the last thing to do before I bolt the dash in permanently.

Jimmy, before I confuse you let me explain. The car is about 8 miles away from me, so when I go to work on it I will not be back until much later today.
Therefore in my desperation I have found a picture of a smiths gauge from another web site. The problem is that there appear to be two different models. The model shown I have wired into my sisters 1275 gt. The type I am left with has 2 bullet type connectors. The reason I have shown this is in hope that you will now know what the type I have looks like. I took 1 apart yesterday and the 2 bullet connections ar directly connected. Wire goes in, coils around a ring inside the casing then comes out again. The spade connector connects to some really fine wiring inside.
I will take a picture and post it tonight if the above does not help. Rolling road and MOT Saturday coming so I am getting very desperate to finish it. Thanks

Thanks Jimmy and Tom.
I looked through the Haynes manual this morning and in my frustation looked at the wiring diagram for a pre 76 mini. Turns out that the rev counters we have appear to be from a pre 76. Dont know how because the oldest we have broke is a 78. Anyhow. Spade is +ve from ignition, screw to earth. One bullet connector from the ignition supply, through the rev counter then out of the second bullet to the +ve side of the coil. works no problem.
