I'm just about to buy a mig welder, but before i do wanted to know what things i should be looking out for. My understanding is that i need gas to get a nice clean weld and that amps are important.

I'd planned to get the clarke 100amp one...

http://www.machinemart.co.uk/product.asp?p...20&r=2029&g=105

It says it runs from a domestic power supply whereas some of the higher ampage ones mention a power supply.

Will this be good enough to do basic welds on a mini?

Any advice/tips/feedback would be great. :)

will i still be able to run this from a 13amp socket in my garage?

Just confused as to what this means... "Operates from 230v, 1ph power supply. "

Look on ebay for a Cebora MIG welder. They make the Snap on welders which are VERY good.

I personally have a Snap On 130A Turbo, mainly because my dad also has the same machine that has performed faultlessly for over 15 years.

I have a Clarke 150 Turbo and it is excellent. I have blown a couple of 13A fuses when welding heavy guage with the current turned to max, but can't fault it.

Had an SIP 130(ish) turbo welder that I bought 2nd-hand for around 50 notes. No messing, I went straight to the SIP dealer and bought a brand-new torch/cabel assembly for 40 quid. It was like having a brand-new welder...
Never let me down, and weded pretty much anything I needed to weld.

As Tom says - Cebora !! I've got a Cebora 165amp and its excellent - got it off eBay for £130 and was the best money I've spent ! Runs on 13amp socket - apart from when I tried it on full juice to weld some 10mm thick RSJ's !
Also search eBay for Murex Tradesmig - used those at college and they've excellent - about £1000 new but seen them go on eBay for £150 !

I've got a Clark 130 and it's ok, I know a could of people with Ceboras and I wish I'd have put the money I spent on the clarke towards one of them.

Hi,
The Cerbora / Snap on is excellent. The only thing you need to do is beef up the handle, they brake easy as the welder is so heavy. You can tell the quality of a welder by its weight.....
Cheers,
Gavin :)
