Hi guys, went and made purchase of an engine stand from machine mart today, got it all out of the box and assembled it, piece of cake. The only thing i am concerned about is the way to mount the plate on the block to slide in the stand, the only way i can think of that is partially sturdy is mounting it on the back like this:

But think its still a bit sketchey, only 2 bolts holding quite a bit of weight. Should i try and find a way to use the arms on either end? If i did it would over hand and have more shearing force on the bolts i reckon but im not sure how to do this. I did a seach and theres talk of making brackets to mount them onto the stand. Ive got the Bill Sollis dvd of him building a 1380 and he mounts the bracket like i have! What would you lot do?

Cheers, Rich

I mounted it on the front on the alternator mounts and also on the oilfilter mouting holes witha spacer, i'll see if i can do some pics later.

oh i think i had to drill an extra hole in the stand too.

Thats how i use the stand, but, the plate is at a slight angle so it sits above the flange and is parallel to the block. Looking at it from the back with the mount pointing towards you, it needs to be turned a little counte clockwise.

Oh and use thicker washers too, or there might be trouble. High tensile cap hed bolts are a good idea too.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

If you can wait a few weeks and are feeling flush I going to make up a batch to sell on the bay.

i use the fuel pump bolts as per the original pic, hasnt fallen off the stand in the 2 months its been on there..

i actually drilled 2 specific holes in the plate, stops the block sliding around in that groove.

Must admit, mounting my engine using 2 bolts made me nervous but the it remained intact for over 6 weeks. As mentioned earlier make sure you are using high tensile bolts (10.9) and a couple of thick washers and you'll be OK
