Hey guys.

Ive got everything I need for a new engine supplied by Minispeed.

Started putting it together earlier to find that there is no end float what so ever on the crank.

Any suggestions on what I can do about it?

The washers fit in tightly, the crank turns but not freely, but ive heard from numerous places thats its vital to have the end float.

Any help would be ever so much appreciated.

got a few options....get some undersize thrusts, thin your ones down, or use some old ones if their in good nick

You need different shims. Simple as.

Have a look on the back of them - they'll say 003" or 006" or somet like. this refers to 'oversize' ie they're thicker than standard by .003"

So - you need to purchase some that are thinner - ie if you have a pair of 006" in there, you need to buy a set of 003".
You don't have to replace both sides though - you can just swap one 'side' of the web - but obviously get the same thickness on the same side.

Don't feel miffed at the engine suplier - this stuff happens - they have to put a certain trust in the end builder to do the job right.

If you had (say) 1.5 thou axial clearance, then you could be tempted to work the thrusts over a piece of emery cloth (steel side) to take a slither off them. But as you say it's tight- then just go down a size.

Before that - do an idiots check that you have the main cap on the right way - run your finger over the thrust face line between the block and cap to see that there is no step.

Check they arnt bent - seriously i've had 2 sets from minispares which were - 2 thou bend in one set!

I've seen the future and tbh its Pie

Yep its a good point, I had a tight crank in my engine which turned out to be the centre main cap had sprung and nipped the crank.

Try the crank with no thrusts, and only one cap at a time tightened down to make sure.

i can go one even b etter tom,
i has a block that all seemed fine when fitting the crank , i could torque the mains up to 55lbs and the crank spun freely but pull them down to 60 and it locked solid,

turned oput to be a distorted centre housing,
and like a twat i binned it thinking it was scrap .

i'd forgotton about line boring,

Indeed, the block I had that with was line bored to correct this, the line boring was quite expensive to have done so I had steel caps and a 4 bolt centre main put on at the same time.........
