Hello everybody,

I just wanted peoples views on this Fast road clutch upgrade ?

I know its only for the verto application but its apparently good for another 30% power increase, or should that be torque?

Only going for 8-10 PSI, with an intercooler and 100 octane but will stick a minispares cross pin on it as well.

EBAY - item No. 260026182300

Cheers

BTW - I took my buddy VTEC Pete out for a spin this weekend, and even though I am running her in, he gave it a name, the "Brocket"...cause I'm a brocket maaannn, nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah....

That must be why I got it for 55 quid new, but even at that price I suppose it would be as cheap as a standard replacement plate and spring etc ?

Anyone had any good results ?

Brocky don't bother, Benross did indeed try a supposedly uprated Verto, it could not cope with the torque of a tuned turbo motor.

Oh well, to late , will maybe give it a try and then maybe change the verto out , for a non verto with grey diapham etc which I was saving for a higher output spec *happy*
At least with a flip front I can mess about fairly easily with out too much fuss.

Have cut the bottom end cover holes to let it slip out with out having to completey remove the bolts *happy*

Besides I like working on it almost more than driving it !!

I think Benross's clutch is 'ok' upto 12psi in his motor, after that point it just slips. However, i might be wrong!

Thanks Andeh,

Ben, can you confirm if your uprated verto is ok upto 12 psi,

I am only going for a mild tune on this one, upto 8-10 PSI with, Standard CR, intercooler, and 100 RON.

Cheers

Brocky,

I think it would be useful to have a record of what is on offer from Techniclutch.

It may well be a viable option for my mild 998 Turbo. Peter hit his with Nitrous so thats not comparable.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

brocky for the power output you want its up to the job around 12 psi after that forget it!

they are stronger no doubt but its the actual clamping load with the torque & combined high RPM where if fails *frown*

ok you will want to run the power figure you stated but........ i can assure you
you will want more!

put a clutch in there which will do the duty *wink*

then your not going to be wasting your money

or wait till turbo dave has perfected and tested his new desighn

Ok, it's an old thread and I know I am in danger of rivaling Vegard for bring up historical postsbut htis is important to me.

Anybody used one of these? Do you have a part number or similar so that I can make sure I order the right thing.

I am looking for something that will handle a mild tune on a 1275 turbo until the TD clutch is available.
The engine will be placed on top of standard turbo box and drops so it's can't be too crazy!

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Well..I know the 1000cc Balco clutch cover I used ( verto ) held up to 1.5 bar easily with an AP paddle plate.

Its a weird thing, and Ive said it before, but not all vertos are the same. There has to be other good covers out there.

I went through about 5 or 6 clutches before I found this cover. None of the others would hold over about 12psi.

I do have a valve spring tester thingy on order. As soon as I get it, I'll maybe remove the engine and see if I can test the cover somehow to see how it clamps.

They still have them on ebay - try this item number *smiley*260090686876, its not the right picture but the correct clutch came.

I emailed them at info@techniclutch.com

asking:

I am interested in purchasing a Techniclutch for a metro turbo

Could you tell me the price and what the increased torque capacity is for the stage 1 item please ?

to which they replied:

It is 30% uprated however if your vehicle is running a lot more power we do a paddle clutch as well. We can supply you a Stage 1 for £145 including delivery or a paddle clutch for £210 including delivery.

I got mine off ebay for £55 + postage.

I'm a couple of weeks off getting my motor on the road which initially I am going to run with a standard 1275 turbo lump, with big bore, cone filter, intercooler and 8-10 PSI on 100 octane.

If the standard clutch slips, I will be fitting to the Techniclutch I bought.

For the high boost engine I am building I hope to get one of DC's as well. *smiley*.

Cheers

Ok, might look into this solution ....

Stevie, how was the paddle plate to drive? I'm trying to avoid a heavy or snatchy clutch ... hence why I want to stay with verto.

triple post !!!

I just hunted in the motor factors through all of their clutches. I set the cup onto the fingers and stood on it. Whichever one was the hardest, I took it and tried it.
The difference in some of them was amazing !!! Some would just fall under my weight, some required me to jump on it....

Im sure I covered well in excess of 60K+ in my Mini when I drove it with that cover and a paddle disc. It was perfectly driveable as far as I was concerned.
That was with 13's and a 3.1 diff

I had to replace a couple of flywheels and have a new friction surface fitted to the cover a couple of times too. the paddle paltes are quite agressive in terms of wear on these parts. Went through several paddle disks too.

The fingers are also noticeably worn where the cup presses against them. Not much I can do about that though.
