There are 2 people that want to buy my R5 T2, i also have a T3 from a metro, should i shell the T2 or T3? Or keep them? what does turbo dizzy mean? And how can i lower my compression, can i only lower the compression by placing other pistons? thanks

I would keep the T2.

Turbo dizzy refers to the turbo-specific distributor. This has a different advance curve to a normal one.

You can lower compression by using different pistons or by having the cylinder head chambers ground out to increase the volume.

How mechanically conpetent are you? If you're handy with a welder, tap and die set, etc - then the T2 is a mod you may want to make.
If you just want to get it in and have fun, then stick with the T3 - maybe sell the T2 to help your budget.

Certainly the T2 is where you might want to end up - but the fact is that the most powerful Turbo-minis are running T3s, which suggests (this year at least) that the t3 is the one for outright power.
No-one can dispute that it's the T2-series units for all-round drivability and fun however.

Hi,
First of all I think you need to ask yourself a couple of questions....
1 What are you going to use the car for? Daily driver or weekend / track tool?

2 What do you want from the engine? Relate this to the answer from question 1 ......

A mega boost /low compression/ cammy engine won't be much fun on the road, by the time you've wound the turbo up, that 998 will be long gone!
Also don't just think engine, think clutch, g/box. If you're running high boost, your clutch will try (and probably succeed) to eat your crank, not much use on the car you need to get you to work!
Grab a cuppa and read the FAQ and beginners tech sections, do searches, from the questions you're asking you need a plan / do a bit more ground work.

I'm not trying to put you off, just help you get it right / be happy with what you've built. *wink*
Cheers,
Gavin :)

thanks for all replies,. It's the first time i'm going to work on a mini, and the first time i'm going to work with turbos. What i want is a mini with a engine for road use, and i want it to go fast from 0-60,... And i love turbos so i want it to have one, i'm now searching for a NA metro engine, and i know i have to change a lot of things. Can i put a turbo on every 1275 NA engine?

Hi,
Don't use the MG metro one the compression is too high. You want a 9.4:1 compression ratio engine, use your T2 on a Mirage manifold (no need to cut the bulkhead). Fit an intercooler and run 10 psi. Maybe MJ or modify the dizzy, get it setup on the rollers and away you go.
Thats a very simplified approach, you'll need to rebuild your engine, uprate the clutch and transmission too.
As you can see there's a lot to take into account.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

so if i would buy an mg metro NA engine , the compression would be to high to put a turbo on it, so i have to chance the pistons then? Wich engines doe have a low compression ratio? what about a 998? because theres a 998 in the mini now. thanks

thanks for the reply, i don't know what the CR is on a 1275, but i'm going to check it. WHat would be best a 998 turbo or 1275 turbo? what about the torque and hp on a 998?
