Thats the oil pressure light.

Check that it is connected to the oil pressure switch at the front of the engine.

If it's connected, then you have a big problem. No oil pressure.

Check that your oil pressure relief valve is not stuck open.

Haynes says for Mk4 or 5 models, White/Brown for the oil pressure switch, Green/White for the water temp sensor.

Varies depending on the year.

Hi,
White with brown stripe for oil press. and green with blue stripe for water temp.
If you've got the central speedo (old type) it sounds to me that you've got the oil pressure warning light in the the hole for the alternator and vice versa.
Meaning your alternator is knackered!
It would need some skill to stretch the oil pressure wiring across the engine to where the temp sender is! LOL
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Two wires snapped off when I was taking the engine out I got the green blue wire on the Water temp and The white brown on the oil pressure. The alternator seems to be working fine. Water temp don't work so ive ordered a new switch to try. The oil pressure light just sticks on after I start the car. It was fine in the metro maybe oil pressure valve stuck open Il have to check.

Hi,
Easiest way to tell what's going on is just take the wire off the switch, and the light will go out. Then hold the wire down to earth and the light should come on. If so it's the switch. You just need the ignition switched on don't start the engine.
Cheers,
Gavin :)
