I've got to a bit of a breakthrough point with my clutch design (it's nearly midnight and I've been working on it since 4pm LOL) but have a small concern about the tolerancing of the units...

This might be asking for trouble (given the numbers of peeps and different measuring equipment) but I'd like you to take a measurement on your 'centre' and post it up.

The diameter is shown here.
Also give an estimation of how accurate you feel your measuring equipment and skills are please folks...

Naturally I will aquire a whole load of these to measure myself if this works out, such that i can tolerance this myslef, but for the time being it'll make my life easier if I can enlist the help of the many engineers and enthusiastic types on here to get me some initial data. If we see too much tolerance sweep - I'll need a major re-think sadly...

Thanks guys - this is for ALL OUR BENEFITS ultimately... :)

leeds/wakefield.

without going and measuring a load that i have ,i can tell you there is easily .010 in them,
when i change mine i root through to find one thats snug in the hole on the flywheel.

61.2mm here, using digital vernier calipers, double checked with standard Mitutoyo vernier calipers.

Measuring ability somewhere in between a CMM and Stevie Wonder with a helix ruler.

PS, just a thought Dave, if that dimension is especially critical to your clutch design, would it not be possible to make the part that fits onto that shoulder slightly smaller, say 60.5mm, and then require people to machine their verto centres down to allow fitment of your parts?

That is the likely option Tom, but then you're relying on someone to actually clock it up instead of just mounting the nose in a 3-jaw and turning the diameter down...

Still - I guess if instructions / guidelines are provided, then the retard who decides he can do it himself with a dremmel and a strip of sandpaper has no recourse...

Basically - moving this into an 'end user interaction' brings all kinds of unpleasantries to the party. Maybe i should just do it on an 'exchange / surcharge basis' - ie you give me your verto centre or pay another £10 ???

I think with specialist mods like this, it would be best to to exchange/surcharge basis and charge a bit extra? For the majority of people that have limited acces to machine tools it would work out far cheaper.

It would prevent you from getting floods of emails asking what to do,where to get it done etc.

Just something to think about. *wink*

Hi,
Dave, I'd go with the exchange system as well. Otherwise your going to get people sending clutches back under warranty for judder, when the problem lies with the machining on the hub.
Cheers,
Gavin :)
