hi

just wondering weather this is any one from hear selling this on ebay?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/mini-turbo-intercool...1QQcmdZViewItem

does it actoly make any differnce in performance?
would it mean you wouldnt need to cut holes into your bonnet or would you still need to get a direct flow of cool air coming in through holes in the bonnet or would the air coming in through the grille be enough?

cheers

youll still need it in the airflow, i think the intercooler will be ok alone if fitted behind the grill but there is better ones on ebay but £60 is defo to much! imho

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

i thought it was a bit high, im not going to get that one as iv got a 2wd cossi one going in (got that for £30 inc p&p)
just thinking i could fit it in withouht the holes so it looks even more stealthy (sp?).
but if it wont make any differnce then i wont bother putting a fan in and just cut aload of holes in the front of the bonnet.

you don't nececrally need loads of holes to get air to the intercooler.

if you can mount the intercooler where a front rad would be and add ducting to make the air go through, then your in with a good chance, the ducting need'nt be anything fancy either, some duct tape and corflake packets and a temp sensor on the outlet of the intercooler and you should be able to find somethig pretty functional.

untill you go through a puddle lol
i think the easiest way to do it is to do as a few members on hear have done and modifyed the slam panel and drill some holes in the front of the bonnet, but i think i will have a look for myself when i come round to fitting it.

going through a puddle shouldn't make any difference at all. In fact, it will cool it down further.

Both the Smart car and the MR2 are mid mounted so I think that helps explain the fan.

so basicly if youv got room for a fan on the intercooler, and its got cool air going to it it would be a good idea to try it.
i may have to use a few small fans on the cossie cooler as its long and narrow.
and yes i did mean the cornflake packet lol.
has anyone actoly done a test with and without a fan on the cooler??

i think the small fans wil actually restrict the free flow of air through the intercooler if it's placed behind the grille.
It would only be beneficial if you cut the bonnet holes and use the fans , bcuz if the fans are used without ventilation you'd be pulling hot air thru the intercooler from within the engine bay...

it would definitely come in handy if you're in traffic a lot , but it you'd still need to cut the holes..
some GT Touring car style vents on the bonnet with ducting to the 'cooler looks much better in my opinion

"it would definitely come in handy if you're in traffic a lot"

I wouldn't have thought that there would be any hot air to cool if there is no boost though?

you could mount the fans behind the cooler to draw air through ? it would not constrict airflow that way, and in traffic would pull cold air accross the core ? being able to expell the hot air from the engine bay would be something to consider imho. i have holes near my scuttle on the bonnet with powerfull fans which drag all the hot air out dunno if it will work, but then again iam trying some odd shit with my build...coolers in wings etc etc

I think I'd try and avoid fitting fans where possible, more things to potentially go wrong, and more power sapped from the engine to run the things!

aye NUFC fans that is mark psml !

i will still try it ! works a treat on me T5 should feel the heat you can stand at the back of the car and the fan kicks in blows all the heat away from the turbo/engine bay away under the car,

i take onboard your advice as usual mark but i will give it a go i have a few ideas up my sleeve.

I really don't think that fans would work well at all.

The ywork fine on the Rad etc so that you can still remove the hot air whilst stationary. But i don't see it working on the intercooler.

The intercooler cools the hot air created by compression in the turbo. So the intercooler only needs to have a cool, fresh supply of air when the turbo is creating boost.

It would take a seriously powerfull fan (one which certainly would not fit under the bonnet of a mini) to match the ammount of airflow that will be coming through the front grille at 30mph.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

exactly , the fan might blow some air about when your moving slowly but it will never replace good old fashioned air flow,

Hi,
I think it would be worth a try.
The air coming out of the turbo will still be hot if you've been giving it some welly, and then slowed in traffic.
It may help with heat soak issues.
As said above you'd need holes in the bonnet to get cool air in and the fans behind the intercooler pulling it through the core.
Cheers,
Gavin :)
