Hi guys, bit puzzled...

Went to get a new bottle of argon today (using air products), and the bloke took our old bottle and returned with a wierd gray/green bottle insisting that its the new colour scheme but the same gas.

Anyway, we usually use stuff called 'Cougar 20' and its fine for what we use it for, just bodywork and a bit of light fabrication, but on inspection, this bottle has 'Cougar 5' on the top.

Do any of you guys know the difference? and will it be ok for our use?

Cheers in advance

Jo

Hi,
I've got that, I think. I recognise the colour, but can't remember the name. Has it got a built in regulator on the cylinder? Mine has.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

no, not got a built in reg, its a x47s so its a big bugger if that helps...

i dont think it will make that much difference to us, i think what we were using before was a bit OTT for our use anyway...

I use what BOC call Argoshield light.

Mostly Argon, with 5% other gasses I think.

Bloody weird, I tried welding mild with stainless gas (BOC?) and it wouldn't have any of it. Since argon distills at it's own temperature, they add the stuff to kill the purity and charge you for the pure stuff. I wonder how much helium is.... When I get the tig in action, I want pure argon, not adulterated with any shit whatsoever. Adding a bit of CO2, why? So your welds are brittle ? Grrrrr!

Bugger off, I'm getting there.
