I would like to know how to retard timing on any A series engine. Any help would be great.

I cannot find any plate engine plate on the engine block, indicating the displacement of the engine. They say my engine is 1071, but it looks like 998. Are they identical?

Hi,
I presume you're fitting a turbo and running a distributor?
If so what most people have done is 'weld up' the distributor so it will not advance at all. Then set your timing to around 20 degrees.
This is not ideal as 20 degrees makes the engine a bit difficult to start.
The best thing to do is to use a mapped ignition system such as megajolt / squirt or DTA,Emerald, Omex, etc.
For more info do a search and read through FAQ and begineers tech.
Cheers,
Gavin :)
