Ok, over the last year of so I've notice quite a few members of TM are working long hours and now I've started work on building my engine my hours have jumped from a normal 40 a week to 70 this week and 60 the week before (I'm not looking forward to next week).

And now I'm barely able to stay awake let along work on either of the cars :(

I know the feeling...

I think its the fact that this forum attracts lots of intelligent people and many of them work hard partly because of the skills they have but also because of the people they are... IE not lazy :)

My boss asked me a few weeks ago to do 12 hours a day 6 days a week for the next 6 months or so. Can't say I've been doing that every day. But your right there are some smart cookies on this forum and some people with interesting jobs.

I've been doing 60 + for the last 5 weeks, all nights, and all outside next to the railway.

Still, it's all money in the pot for a new Subaru, and fix the TT of course.

Been there, done that got the tee shirt.

And got f@ck all for it working all hours for someone else. Lots of stress and poor health was the end result.

Now work for myself, by myself, rarely over 40 hours a week.

You just need to charge a high enough rate that controls the work to an acceptable level.

My advice - dont do it!

Saul Bellow - "A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep."
Stephen Hawking - "The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge."

I have a wierd job in the hours dept..

I look after 20 odd CT scanners and cover a lot of others when on standby which is a 24/7 call every 5 weeeks or so. Some days/weeks I do sweet F-all (but have to be available to respond immediately) others get nasty, yesterday 5:30am start 2am end... I have actually put in 28-30 hours in a "day" more than a few times.... Then you have a 2-3 hour drive home!~! (thats when I usually dump into a Hotel) Good thing is I get well paid for this extra time...

All in all I couldn't stand a 9-5 job, I like what I do. If I fix em right I just sit on my ass and wait, and thats the kind of job you want!
