Heres my latest project, an 82 Metro HLS one lady owner, 47k on the clock blah blah.

Out of pure coincidance ive been given a free metro turbo lump so im thinking what the hey lets turbo it!

Brought the car near the end of september, done a bit of welding, a bit of painting, a lot of lowering and alot of wheel modifications.

Heres the pics

Check the thread on RR for more infos

had a read through that link

what you want, nay need! to do is chop the struts a bit, then you can run the hydragas at std ( or a bit higher) pressure, and it'll be stiff as a vicar in an underwear factory.

also a rear roll bar from a metty turbo will help matters, oh and weld up all the subrame mounts solid.

these few simple mods will make the world of diference,

also my metro wheels of choice were std imp or mini steelies, got rid of all that nasty inset*laughing*

I think i've got rid of all my metty goodies now, i'll have a look tho there might be the od jem lurking in the garage.

Hi,
Keep the pea shooter tailpipe. Stick the turbo exhaust out the side. That'll make for good fun at traffic light GP's!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

I didnt relly explain what i did in that thread very well.

Ive removed enough material from the knuckle joints to lower that car 2" all round (.750" at the front and .400" at the back) Then pumped it back up with my ghetto pump untill it looked right. I put so much pressure in the front the pump wouldnt push anymore in! At the front its quite hard but at the back its still a bit soft so i might remove some more from the struts and pump it up to a higher pressure

Ive herd from a guy who used to do metro challange or something that they used to lower them by enlarging the size of the droop stops at the back so the car sits on them perminatly. Then you can crank up the pressure as high as you like with out gaining any ride height. Im just not sure if it would be a very good idea for a road car? would cirtanly lift the back wheel on corners!

Im looking for a rear antiroll bar for it at the moment but im thinking it might be a good idea to sepearate the 2 units on the rear so they work independantly aswell?

Then i hear the later front antiroll bars are thicker so i was going to try and get one of those and fit some poly bushes. The rear subby mounting is comedy. So i was goin to weld the mounts up and add some mounts to the back of the subframe too? as it only has those crappy straps

Yeh lots to do*smiley*

Looks fantastic, my only comment / concern is that the fuel return line might be a tad small.

good man! going in the right direction!!

to stiffen the back up even more there's a couple of thing's you can do,

1) do what i did an fit rear hydragas units from a van ( there were 2 van's a 300 and a 500 this refered to the weight carying capability)

2) fit front units to the back and then you wont need the roll bar, also you can then set the cornerwights properly, bit of a pain though!! ( I suspect the 500 van had front units on the back but interconecter)

3) don't actually change the spring rate but cut the rear arches and fit some shocks.

4) put different fluid in the rear, Citroen LHM was a popular mod.

another really worthwhile mod is some form of engine steady, does yours have the 4 round engine mounts or the later 2 round 2 square? the later ones were suposed to be a bit better, but they still move loads!! Avonbar do metro steadys I think.

I think you might be pissing into the wind with the master cylinder homemade hydro pump, on this site theres info on building one from a greasegun, may be worth a look if yours dosent work

http://www.austinamericausa.com/

the last of my metro tips*laughing* is put some uprated bushes on the front TCA/rolbar interface the std rubberonde fail..... constantly. I bought some from avonbar in about 96 and they were £80!!!! all they were was hard plastic!! seriously you could knock up the same from plastic or ally in about a lunchtime!!

oh another tip, invest in a new petrol cap, chances are the one on there will be leaky, especialy when your wanging it around left hand bends.

theres a reason theyre up higher on the later cars*wink*

Hi,
I remember there was a recall on the Metro filler caps as the Police kept crashing them. Well that was the excuse at the time *wink*

Those wheels look wicked! What did they start life as, 13 X 5's?

What width are they now?

Keep up the good work, I love the slammed euro look. :)
