Hi guys,

this may have been asked before, can a standard MG metro engine be turbo charged, the reason for asking is that i have just been told by Avon bar that aprt from the CC sizes of the dishes in the pistons there is no other differnace, apparently the piston crown thinkness etc are the same,

Therfore does this mean then that if i change the head and increse the CC and therefore lower the compresion ration the mg engine could be turboed.

as the internals are practically the same.

Is anyone able to confirm this.

Hi,
Yes the internals are the same except the turbo block runs plain bearing shells in the main caps. The MG had a higher comp ratio than the others in the range. I'm fairly sure the standard 1275 and the turbo are 9.4:1, MG is 10:1
On 9.4:1 with an intercooler and mapped ignition you can just squeeze 12 psi in there.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

will you blue print your engine before or just want to use a larger chamber head to decrease cr?
do you know engine milage?
generally cranks , rods pistons just need a set of bearings rings and oil pump, but the gearbox is the weak point
, layshaft needle bearings dif pin main bearing and synchros also the genuine 3.44 diff is a bit small you should go for a 3.1 unit depend of your wheel size, then a good clutch should be on your list
which power woud you like?
boosting an mg n/a is already an upgrade over mg mety turbo(with his larger valves and good cam).
As many guys here I think you'll want more after....it's better if the engine have been well done first .
cheers

I just stripped a 12H907 engine (best Info I can find is "pre-84 Metro) and It had "turbo" mains and 10.5 CR pistons that look exactly like Turbo ones but with 8cc dishes. I am not sure if this is because someone modified it but no machining seems have been done.

12HF01 is the unleaded 10.1:1 MG

I also have a 12HD24 which IS leaded and 10.5:1

Think a turbo is a 12HC25 or something off the top of my head.

Have a look at 1.3 vans, they could take quite a bit of boost by the looks of it, just don't rev 'em too much!

Bugger off, I'm getting there.
